HELP - evaluating a 1993 HDJ81V 4.2L TD

HELP - evaluating a 1993 HDJ81V 4.2L TD
HELP!

I special orded a 1993 HDJ81V "limited" 4.2L TD from Japan. It arrived yesterday at the importer. Took some checklists and a buddy who is truck saavy. Here are the ups and downs so far:

Downs:
1. slight movement in the wheels when shaken
2. front left fender has 'crakled paint lines' and other 3 are perfect
3. spare tire is different make/size than other four.

Ups:
1. already has integrated bumper
2. not a rust spot to be seen
3. oil seems 'clean'
4. trans seemed to slide smoothly in place.

Any comments/help before I send the rest of the $????

Christopher

Where are you.
Wish I had a diesel you lucky bastard
I would not worry about the slight movement. (bareley wiggels?)
You can do a front birf job and replace the wheel bearings if it needs them.

Have you perused the 80's FAQ section, it has all kinds of info to help w/ this decision. And you may want to provide as much info as you can as to what youve already checked and any specific ?'s or concerns. good luck, must be nice to get the diesels!

do a compression test
check turbo air hose for signs of oil leak/weap
if AT, check ATF for burnt smell/colour
check that the timing belt has been replaced if over 100,000Km

after you buy...
if you don't know that BEBs have been replaced, replace them with ACL (not Toyota) ASAP
if AT, prepare to add remote cooler
plan on an injector service, perhaps replacement
enjoy!

g'luck, -Steve
