Question Realtime Help - Slee OBA kit belt problem

I'm just finishing up putting in my york compressor and low and behold, the belt isn't anywhere near being tight enough. The kit came with a Drive Rite 39013 v-belt. Is this the wrong size belt, or did I do something wrong? I really can't see how this could possibly fit without adding an idler pulley.

The picture doesn't really show the looseness of the belt, but I've got the compressor all the way up and the belt is still too loose to even stay on the pulley without resting it on them.

What is the diameter of your clutch pulley (6")?

Assuming you have the correct pulley, I would run the compressor all the way to the bottom of the slots in mount and then measure the deflection of the belt.

This should tell you (approximately) the amount shorter a new belt needs to be.

Remember, it will be tough to get a belt over a two groove pulley, but don't get one that is too long because its going to stretch some anyway. You probably need 100-120 lbs. tension (measured with a tensioner tool) per the York manual.

When I do mine it will have an idler pulley.

Good luck Sir.

was this from the original batch or did you get it from Slee? I got one of the original ones and I'll check my belt and post back.

Looks like the same belt as it's 39" long. I just checked it against the York and the york is made for a larger belt also. Hope this thing doesn't slip since there is only one drive belt.

You can cut a piece of rope that's about the right diameter and use it to get a length on what is needed. any auto parts store should be able to take that length and size a belt for you.

Yorks came with TONS of different diameter pulleys for all the hundreds of applications they exist in, I've got two or three different dia. pulleys on my shelf...

Either look through a junkyard for a larger dia pulley (waste of time)

Or look up a belt of the same width but a little shorter at your local parts store.

I am suprised Christo includes belts with these kits as there are so many different pulley configurations on yorks...

I'll measure it tomorrow. This isn't from the original batch, I got it from Slee. I haven't measure the pulley on the York, but it looks to be about six inches.

A 6" pulley seems to be the most common application, hence the reason for my question in my first post. But, as stated....there are different sizes.

Another thing to watch for is the distance from the face of the compressor to the center of the grooves on the pulley (offset). If this is off appreciably, the belt won't line up and run true with the fan pulley.

The belts were supplied from David when he sent me the kits. I was debating this as well, but he mentioned it should work with all Yorks with a 7" pulley, that is the most common. Might not be worth it in the end to supply a belt, due to pulley differences.

My pulley looks to me the same size as pictured above. I'm referencing the OD of the pulley to that of the square mounting plate behind it. I should measure it, is that measurement the total diameter on the outside or at the inner of the V notch.
