Under Body Cameras to Laptop
I've been toying around with the idea of mounting some cameras under a vehicle to record footage of hard core wheeling. Does anyone know of any vendors that sell some waterproof, small, color cameras I can either hook up to a laptop to record or hooked up to some other HDD recording device (like a black box). I've been looking all over for some examples of what other people have done and haven't found much yet.
Thanks!

There are these new backup camera that are being talked about.
Some of them are wireless.
Perchance it may have some sort of output reasonably accessible?
but wideangle though

Search around maybe in the remote control airplane crowd. My neighbor does that stuff and I know he uses cameras. He's out of town for the weekend though.

You need to contact Dick Foster also his screen name on the TTORA board.
Last time I saw Dicks truck it had 5 cameras mounted with 2 selectable veiwing screens and a helmet cam for the spotter. IIRC he headed the development on the arena football helment cam.

I am sure there are some better ways out there by now to do this but, we used helmet cams to record our rides. We had several different models and finnally came up with the one that actually worked. The name ascapse me now but I will email my friend to get the info.
The good thing about this camera is, waterproof, color recording, very small like a lipstick case, very durable mounted under the skid plate ones and on the lower part of the forks several times. Not to expensive either, about $180 shipped.
The bad, since it is single focus you get somewhat of a fish eye look. This may not be a problem when filming rockcrawling. Lens gets covered with dust or mud. You have to use a camcorder with it and can only use one per recorder.
Something to look at would be a security type program that records the data from several cameras at the same time. You would be able to run as many cameras as you want up to the limit of the program. Cost depends on the features you want adn if you want professional quality or if yo just want to check it out for yourself.
Like I said earlier, I am sure there are better lenses and cameras out there by now. We did this two years ago so that is how old my research is. As soon as my friend sends me the info I asked from him I will forward it on to you. Good luck in your quest, should be a fun one and maybe very educational, I know it was for us.

I've been wanting to get one of the Archos pvr's for travel and thought it would be cool to set up to record video on the trail also. I don't know it personal digital recorders can be set up for multiple cameras. you can get a dvr card for your laptop off of e-bay for about $40 that will record so so.

Here is an option from the RC hobby:
Wireless Video Equipment
I bought a couple of these awhile back to use on a RC plane:
Wireless Eyecam
I've never used them and probably never will so if you're looking for something like this and it will work I could probably be talked out of them ...Now that you mentioned this though it sounds like a fun idea to maybe mount one of these buggers up and record an outing.

How bout a cheap web camera that connects by USB if you already have a laptop in the cab? Put it behind some plexiglass, or in a clear case. Sometimes after rebates these can almost be free. Then you wouldn't need a TV input card as it would record directy to the computer and if it got smashed.. no big loss.

Before its demise the UA tacoma had on board cameras and in cab monitors. You could maybe see what gear Petereson's 4x4 was using for the last couple adventure videos. (editor rick pewe i believe)
