| oil pressure gauge HDJ81? Just wondering from other hdj81 owners out there.. What does your oil pressure gauge usually read during normal highway driving?. Just drove Calgary-Cranbrook today, and mine didnt get higher than the first 1/3 of the reading gauge..
Also might be looking for a replacement ac compressor as I did my 2nd v belt in a month during the trip today.. No idea why, both wheels of the comp. spin freely.. Any ideas?
Thanks
Jeff

Check for runout on the pulleys.
Perhaps it's out a little and eventually chews up your belts.
Either that or it's the Made in Mexico on the belt that I saw.
As for oil pressure I'll check mine on the way to work and let you know. |

| haha, yep.. could be the made in Mexico... I am guessing, now that I have read through some other postings that It may just be a bearing.. Both pullys spin freely.. pretty much anyways.. But on a side note, how do I check for runout on the pulleys?
Thanks Dan

My HDJ81 has the exact same behaviour as well. Not very useful gauge indication if you ask me. I would much prefer a range like on the 60 series, where 2/3 is actually what you're looking for while driving and 1/3 while idling (or thereabouts).

| Hai to all, i just wonder , if the oil pressure guage fail, the needle stays at the bottom at all time, could it be replaced? Or worse, that is to replace the whole meter board. |

| .. been told the factory gauges are notorious for unreliablity and generally sucking. Tossing in a real gauge should be up there on the list.. Attachment 104014

On the 60 my temp gauge and (IIRC) the gas gauge had become inaccurate and I was able to readjust them after taking the instrument cluster out. I hope the gauge cluster on the 80 is not too difficult to remove, can't see any screws there.

| The reputation of the oem gauge is so well known to be crap, why wouldn'l all of us just fix em' instead of installing real gauges?
You could always get creative and find a placement that looks less crutchish.

| Oil Pressure from experience, watch your oil pressure. A low needle reading could be a sign that your low end bearings are on the way out. My guage reads at the 1/3 point but I'm on my way to guages shortly. So, if you haven't done you LEB's yet, get on it. |

| The oil pressure at idle should be 0.3 kg/cm2 , 4.3psi, 29Kpa
At 3,000 RPM 2.5kg/cm2 , 36 PSI or 245 KPa at normal operating pressure.cheers |

| Oil Pressure I have the same problem with my 1990. I changed the BEB's and meassured the pressure with a mechanical guage it was fine. The bearings were fine too. I'm looking for a decent set of guages for the my rig now. Never passes over 1/3rd mark..... |
