Long Ducks Sub Enclosure

Hey,

I am about to order Long Duck's sub enclosure. Actually I wish it was already here. Has anyone got one of these in? I am stoked to hear feedback.

I think its a great setup, and my one banana self would never get around to making this work. Total lack of patience.

I'm really surprised with the amount of them that sold that no one has written any feedback about them yet....

We built and shipped a BUNCH of them....

Ok.....

2nd Gen boxes are now availiable.....

The 2nd Gen box is not much different from the 1st gen, the biggest difference is that the 2nd gen box is a little taller giving the sub a little more airspace. The only other noticable difference is with the 2nd gen box is that I fiberglass the entire box and they do not come carpeted. Increasing the size of the box made the 2nd gen impossible to fit in the rear quarter panel with carpet on the box. The 2nd Gen boxes come in flat black or flat black finish....lol

The 1st gen was .36 cubic feet and the 2nd gen is .50 cubic feet. I did the 2nd gen to prepare for the Exile XT12 subwoofer which will be avaliable in Jan 07....

I'm building 2nd gen boxes now but we can only offer them with the XT10 (10" Subwoofer) until January 07 when the XT12 (12" Subwoofer) becomes avaliable.

There will be an upgrade option for those of you who have purchased the 1st gen enclosure wanting to switch up to the 12" when it comes avaliable but I havent worked out the details yet. Exile is being really tight lipped about the XT12 which doesnt surprise me since the XT10 has been a really popular seller and other manufactures have been making similar copies.

None the less I will keep you all informed as the XT12 comes avaliable.

Now that the whole box is fiberglass and you have gotten more air space is there anyway you can notch it or angle it so we don't lose the pocket in the side panel? It seems like a 2" notch into the box on the forward side would be all that is needed to keep the sleve in that little compartment.

I am planning on buying one of these sub boxes, but have the same question as Bluetribal. Would it be possible to get a box a little shorter so I could still use the whole pocket. I know it would make the volume of the sub box smaller, but it might be worth the decreased performance to keep the use of the whole pocket.

When I originally started the project I tried like hell to keep the pocket but two problems kept coming up.

1. The pocket is not perfectly squared in the slot it fits into the rear quarter. Mine sort of sloped lower into the quarter panel which meant that I was loosing more than a corner of the box.

2. If I re-fabbed the box accounting for the pocket the air space for the enclosure would make the box so small the subwoofer upgrade would be pointless. As the 1st Gen & 2nd Gen boxes sit now they are BARELY enough to make the subwoofer worth having. The 2nd Gen box now with the .50 cubic feet sounds great with the XT10, and it will play slightly lower frequency's then the 1st Gen.

I'm sorry to report that there is no way to have the pocket and the sub. Most would easily give up the pocket to save the cargo space and put the sub behind the panel.

I also want to make a correction......The entire 2nd gen box is not made of 100% fiberglass. The 2nd Gen has the same 3/4 MDF frame that is slightly larger than the 1st Gen.

The 2nd Gen is about 1.75" taller, .75" wider, and just under 1" thicker than the 1st Gen. Hardly noticeable by plain view, but tons different with the sub in the enclosure.
