Transmission Issues

Ok peeps, Here is the issue, I recently changed the tranny fluid in my FZJ80/LX450 now if I stop hard, when I go to accelerate it over revs and than slams into gear. There are no other issues than this. I plan on taking it to a transmission center but I don't know any up here in this area. I would like to have an idea of what the issue is before I go to one. I am in the Sylva Cashiers area in western NC. Any help would be great.

I would check the fluid level. Sounds like you didn't get enough back in. did you remove the pan? There is supposed to be a magnet that gathers up metal. If these shavings are not properly claened away they could get in places they aren't supposed to be.

Like D said. Check the level. When the engine is stopped ATF drains back into the tranny from the converter. Level checks should be done with the engine at Operating temp and running. That way, you'll know the total amount of fuild in the converter and tranny.

The screen/filter should catch any shavings and the magnets will pick up any metal shavings but not aluminum.

Just to third it, classic symptom of fluid starvation.

I take it that you own a late 80 (from referencing an LX)? How many quarts did you fill in? It's worth noting that the owner manuals specify an incorrect amount of drain/refill ATF - only 2.5 qts instead of the actual (approx.) 4.0 qts needed for such procedure.
