I am doing a mini pump/ps box conversion on my 40. Everything is in and done, but there is a vaccuum port with two barbed fittings on the top of the pump. Do I need this, or can I plug it? It is a PITA to run the tensioner around it.

If I do need it, what should I connect the vaccuum lines to? The intake?

I used a minitruck pump with a vac port on my FJ45 PS conversion - I just unscrewed the giant item and plugged the hole with a pipe plug. It doesn't affect pump operation. I recall having trouble getting the pipe plug to seal - not sure whether I JB Welded it in place, or what. So, beware...

I suspect it was plumbed to the carb to increase the RPM under high-steering load situations.

right steve,
its used to idle up the rpm.
But used on both 22R's and 22RE's.

you can operate with out them connected.
i wouldnt know where to connect em anyway on your 40.
it would be the throttle body, but where exactly i dont know.

Thanks guys. I picked up a 14mm 1.50 pitch nut and bolt. Sent the nut to the bottom, cut the bolt to the matching length of the originial, and then matched up the fitting flange with a drill bit I had. I ran a pilot hole 1/2 way down, then created a mating flange with the drill bit. After that, I cleaned it up with a wire wheel and straightened up any burred threads by removing the nut. Looks like a perfect plug. Took about 5 minutes from start to finish. Works perfectly.
