first you should check the sending unit, and yes you can fix a crack in the block but you will have to have an acetylene torch rig and either you braze it or you use an rosebud to heat the block then weld it. but blocks are pretty tough so check the sending unit first.

i can not see how you could have cracked the block replacing the oil sending unit.

Me neither, I can't imagine that happening.

x3. I changed mine when I installed an SR5 instrument panel. As other have said, I can't see anyway that you could crack the block with one of those sending units.

you could but i do not think you could get it in the crack. and if you put it on the threads you would not get the sending unit back out to easily i would say don't do it.

Clean and scrub the block good, then fire it up. Check with a light to see if you can see where it's leaking from (you might have to have someone else start the truck cause it could start leaking too fast for you to come around the truck and see where it's coming from) If the block is cracked I'd try some "The Right Stuff" it's black and gooie, and it rocks. Either way I'd pull the sender and use a bit of "TRS" on the sender. Good luck!

TRS is "The Right Stuff" It's a gasket maker/silicon type stuff that works great! Comes in a tube that goes in a caulking gun.

Most machine shops have a setup for looking for cracks, it uses a thin fluorescent fluid and a light. Drive it over to one, hose it clean with brake clean, then have check it for a crack. Takes only a few mins.

i agree with klf at least you would know for sure and then you can pain over the fix, they might even be able to fix it right for you if it is cracked for a descent price.
