issue with afm sensor...
i have an 87 runner, 22re, 5sp... the maf that came on truck makes it studder, per say, while idling, while driving at any speed it will buk like a bronco... i swapped it with one from a 92 pickup, runs better, while normal easy going city driving the truck runs just fine, but when i get on it harder and bring the rpms higher than 3500 then shift and continue, it will start to buk also and is unable to be driven right for a few hours, got a junkyard one just the other day, now it has a different issue, this one makes it so when i start to go, the rpms will drop and almost die, before i throw in the clutch, this one pretty much just makes the motor hesitate, i tried to adjust the timing abit but no luck... im gonna try to reset the ecu tomorrow and go from there... so if anyone can give me input about my three mafs with three different sypmtoms, please do

Have you checked to see what / if any codes are present in the ECU? That should probably be the first step
might also want to take a close look at the TPS

well... i pulled the codes 2,8, and 11... 2 and 8 are for the maf, and the 11 is for the tps, but i know thats good, its just the connector broke, so its kinda taped on, so for the hell of it, i disconnected the ground cable and put the original maf back on, and now the truck runs like it should... im hopin it stays runnin like it should after the next 20 miles or so

if the original one is making it run right again, I would say it sounds like you had poor contact at the connector - sometimes all you have to do is unplug and reconnect things to get them working again (new "bite" on the terminals)

ive tried doin that before i put on a different one, ive switched them about 10 different times, i even had the truck run and unplugged it and than plugged it back in, i dont know... im just hopin it just stays runnin right

as im readin your original post this come to mind,
its a AFM Air Flow Meter. not a MAF;
Connection issue at the plug to the afm. bent or otherwise poor connection;
loose ground terminal bolted to the plenum;
or any loose connection at the battery, or just a lot of corrosion there;
clogged air filter, loose air filter housing, or clogged fuel filter
be aware that many of the harnesses that come out of the passenger side for the main EFI system can become brittle and break, or filled with dirt and corrode. esp if you do a lot of wheelin
now looks like you have covered most of these basis, but there may be one you overlooked

well let me thank you for correcting my mistake, i that it was a maf, but now i know its an afm... umm... yea, its strange, it stops working, i try another one, still doesnt work just different symptom, try another new symptom, try original now its running right, just like it should... i recently had the harness exposed on my truck due to a corroded wire fro the injector, i was runnin on three, before i found out what toyota did with the simple crimped splice thing... i didnt see any other bad wires while i was in there... all i know is that i got a goofy truck, makes me glad i got it on the cheap from a blown motor... fyi, it was missing the rod bearing for number two piston...

Wow.... I just did some work on an old Willys that had a knock.... there was no bearing in the number 2 rod.... All torqued up and everything! Probably too much beer involved with that engine build...

actually the guy i bought it from used it to go thru the cornfields, he modified the frame by cutting the front and welding flat stock to give it a 3 or 4 inch frame lift... but i think he left it in one gear and kept the rpms way too high... but he mightve been drunk when he did everything
