here is the real world of lifted narrow trucks.

7 inches on 33's.
pull into the parking lot at about 20 mph at an angle.
the front right tire rises up and starts to drop just as the left rear comes up.
you find your self on the right two wheels. turn right. find your self on left two wheels. turn left. on the brakes.
come to a stop and thank god that you didn't hit anyone or any thing. completely out of control.

lesson, never pull into a parking lot like that again.

first time side hilling behind a lower truck. the feeling of balance on the down hill wheels and feeling scared because it is a long ways to the bottom.
lesson, center of gravity has real meaning.

pretty girl go's to get in truck and jumps up. yep, split her head open on the top of door frame and landed on her butt on the ground. no second date
lesson, scalp wounds bleed a lot, crying girl in parking lot draws a lot of negative attention. some times they really do have a head ache.

just turning around in the dirt.. ok a little fast, lifting the in side tires way off the ground. eeeeeeeek.
lesson, centrifical force changes center of gravity.

lower truck, trim some bent metal out of the way.
no more scary..

tried 5 inches of lift. nope didn't like it. not as rocky as the 7.
then went to the 3.5 inch lift that gives me about 3 inches of up travel, oil pan just clears my cross over steering with lowered bump stops.

all the off the shelf lifts and springs that I have owned didn't last very long. maybe 3 or 4 real off road trips.
most of the time they turned into some thing that looked like a 3 laying on its back.

the below were on a 85 four runner and the 85 pick up I have now.

downy, sagged way down with out going off road. the shackles laid flat. called to complain and they would only send me longer shackles

sky jacker, road nice, flexed ok, got bent up pretty easy. went through 2 sets.

rough country, road bad, didn't flex, one jump and they bent at the mounts


so I am running alcans all the way around.
3.5 inch lift
front moved forward 3 inches.
rear 6 inches longer then stock.

my wife is running the 4 inch all pro's and they have relaxed to about 3 inch's of lift.
her rears are also 6 inches longer then stock.

that is about all I know about lifts and springs.
I do not know about ifs rigs as I have 4 front solid axles that are waiting for the day I give up and have to buy an ifs.

wow, 1200 for the SFA kit, I hope that it comes with every thing you need.
just looked at it, pretty complet kit. not bad when you look at all the stuff you get.
rear springs will add about 250.00 with the new front frame mount.


I agree with rock sliders.
but for 31's it depends on what you want to do wheeling.
drive over every thing with ease or have a challenge.
most of the great trails that we have here in the black hills were opened up with a bronco on 31's by Jason Paule.

if you are going to go rocks, put some skid plates on the transmission transfer case. bud built is pretty awsome.
gas tank could use one also. I have not gotten into my gas tank skid to bad yet.


I guess I will be the one to ask the origional poster.. what do you want to do with the truck?

how mechanical are you?

IFS is great if you don't go past it's limits.
remember as you lift it with the torsion bars you also change and increase the stress on tie rods, cv joints. if you get the tie rods at to much of an angle your front tires will try to point toward each other when putting power to the front wheels.

ok! no shocks then, i got no experience on off-road, i think listening from other opinions our good, u gonna learn alot from other peoples experience, right now im happy with my 33''s, the plan is like MISSOURIMAN asking, what do you want to do with the truck?
im going to do mild MUD & mild ROCKS, i still gonna use my truck for everyday use, hopefully u can help me to, thanks dude

That's a good questions!!!!! im planning to do MUD, mild rocks, camping is good!!!!, and basic OFF-ROAD! i can do bolt on, drilling, cutting, basic mechanics ( RNR ) remove N replace ! can u guys teach me the right set up for my truck..... thanks guys

going straight?
only when turned?
only when turned and stuffing the tire up in the fender.
how bad do they rub.
because they will at some time self clearence.
like rubbing and backing up.

you could even bolt on a piece of metal with smooth edges, something that will not tear out or bend up your truck and just let the tire rub when your twisted up.

do the rear tires rub when you are twisted up?
or just the front?

normal driving no! going straight no rubbing, just when i full turn left or right and hit a bumps you can hear my tires rubbing alot, another thing when i drive on the dirt road making a turn left or right again my tires rub! they rub bad!!! from 0 to 10 i say 7 % thats how bad! twisted up like yours NO! my truck cant even do that , hehehe, No just the front,

I beg to differ. I run 31's and I can keep up with everyone else, sometimes I need a tug, but its much better than running tires to large for my engine/gear ratio. The OP doesnt need an exo, your pointing him in the wrong direction. If he wants to go hardcore, he needs to find an older (pre 84) truck and beat the shit out of it while its on 31's, have a feel for what he doesnt like, replace and rebuild. Im locked front and rear, have 4.7 tcase gears and am still on 31's. The only reason I am 31's is because I DD mine to the University everday, and Im poor.

Heres what you do,
Have someone else drive the vehicle SLOWLY so that you can walk along side it and look at where the tires rub, if they rub the outside of the fender, go with some aftermarket fenderflares. If they are rubbing the inside seam, remove the tire and beat on the seem with a BFH (big $#^#^$@ hammer). When I put wheelspacers on my 84 I rubbed pretty hardcore at the seam.

IMO- If the seam isnt the problem Fender Flares are your best bet. It wont take away from your COG (center of gravity), it will allow the tires to fit without a hitch, and protect that beautiful body (of the truck) from flying rocks and mud. Not to mention, they are cheaper than a lift, less work, and its easier on your drivetrain.
