T-case problems

I have an '85 4runner with a 22re and a 5 speed, I have never taken any toyota t-case apart and it wont shift from 2hi to 4hi or 4lo but the shift lever is loose. I was wondering what to look at first and what you guys think might be wrong with it.

pull the shifter up and see if it moves. if it does try to get it back into the shift rails. then go to a scrap yard and get a shifter. if not others will chime in here.

My dad's truck got stuck in low range once, it turned out that his shifter boot had gone away letting water into the top of the case and rusted up the shift rails pretty good. We freed it up and it worked fine for a few years till we made him a new case out of a few spare cases....

Pull the shifter boots off and take the shifter out and tell us if anything looks wrong, or snap a pic if you're not sure.

Welcome to Mud!!!!!! The first advice is free, then we want pics of your truck.....
