85 4x4 converted to 22R
My 85 is all stock except it has been replaced with a 22R...It does not have a snorkel as the exhaust manifold has the re sensor thing on it..What is my predicament as far as passing emissions and resale?

No I really don't know what you mean.
Are you saying your truck used to be EFI (22RE) but someone converted it to carburated (22R)? Maybe a pic or 2 would help.
The answer also depends on where you live. Some states (CA) are fussy on emissions. Where I live, anything pre-OBD2 ('96) doesn't get tested, they don't even open the hood.

I think some 85's were carbed-were they not? If not, you're screwed. And you may be anyway, if the law requires you to comply with the original vehicle equipment guidelines. There's no way a carbed engine will pass EFI emission requirements.

OK, that's the O2 sensor. It sounds like you don't need it. Just remove it (2 nuts) and put a block-off plate over the hole. LC sells one:

Carb'd 22R's were available in 4WD models thru '87. They put them in 2WD models all the way up thru '95.
I would call the testing place and talk to them, see what they say.

Actually I've seen 22r's as late as 91.
EVEN THE CARBED ONES (some of them) HAD O2 SENSORS!!!
It's probably stock.

My dad's 84 22R 4wd has an O2 sensor.
But yours is probably not doing anything unless they swapped in the 22R computer and hooked it all up too....

Ya, you know, after some thought... it could very well be that there is an O2 sensor on that thing from the factory. Is it hooked up to anything? What makes you think it was converted to a carb? If you run the VIN thru the toyodiy.com website, it will tell you how it left the factory, and how it was equipped.

KLF, Did Toyota use "feed back carburetors" with any kind of wiring going to them? If they did, the oxygen sensor is just there for very basic fuel trim control.

keith they did have feedback carbs my 84 had one. and creek the horn you are referring to only takes and sucks hot air off the exhaust manifold when the engine is cold, once it warms up a thermo damper closes and it sucks air from the engine bay. it is only to aid in warmup.

Need to see pictures. Just what is wrong with the front end?
Yea even for the rust belt guys......its a bit much. If the motor was ok(the bottom end by the way..whats wrong with it?) it might be a diffrent story?
