Speaking of clutch failures, I found an odd thing when I pulled my tranny down the other day. The clutch was still working fine, no noise or slippage, but I knew it was getting time for a new one anyway. What I found was one of the rubber dampers in the clutch disk had fallen apart, and one of the metal disks on the end of it had fallen out, there wasn't much left of it. One of the coil springs had also fallen out, it was broken into 3 pieces which were tumbling around in the center cavity of the flywheel.

This was an OEM Toyota AISIN clutch, I had installed it myself 7 years and 75K miles ago. Weird that it fell apart like that, I'm just glad it didn't damage anything or effect the operation.
