Anyone run this header?
Exhaust Header Toyota Pickup Truck 4Runner 22R 22RE rec - JTOutfitters
Im thinking of getting this... But i want a 4.7 kit to... And I have to pay for school... Wonderful.
Has anyone ran one of these? Is the price decent?

Well, first... that company has a very bad reputation in other sections. Do some searching.
Second, they tend to specialize in Cruisers, not mini-trucks. I'm sure they're just reselling those, but if you have any trouble, they're not gonna be much help.
That gasket looks pretty cheesy to me.
I need a new header very badly right now, but I won't even consider that one.
My suggestion? Set your priorities straight. School is more important. Toys can wait.

Ive had good luck with the company, as of one purchase... School is more important, I agree. Its either the header or the 4.7, i have the money and funds for one, not both.

Chiming in. As my mom once told me work first, play later. "Toys can wait." I've had one purchase from JTO and I will never have another.
As far as headers I would recommend a Thorley, or LC Engineering. For the Thorley give these folks a call ... The Dyno Shop

LC Engineering header and Borla exhaust. Best thing I ever did to my 22RE.

Stay out late? Hell... Im home to visit MUD before night falls...
You get the strangest looks when your crawling under your vehicle in the Universitys parking lot. I investigated my oil leak, that suddenly appeared... Seems the Drain plug came loose off the Tcase. I tightened it back up and no problem now.

thanks, I feel all warm and fuzzy now!
a do over if you will.
I really do like my LC header, BUT, some time when I am going to the sand blaster place here. (I am going to put a old, center broke out spark plug in the O2 sensor hole,) and have them sand blast the inside of the stock manifold smooth, and try it.
will also bust out the left over casting flash.
trim the over hanging gasket.
and grind out the out put flange some.

Just cause someone's post count isn't as high as others doesn't mean they don't know their #*$&$ or that you shouldn't listen to them. I've known Missouri for pushing 7 years now, and I've learned from him plenty!
And the fact that he took your punk-ass reply in stride is a testament to his character. If you don't want to take someones advice, don't... You have 2 ears and one mouth for a reason.

I keep getting exhaust leaks, so i want to replace the manifold with a header... This is my second manifold, so im starting to believe its a reoccuring theme for them to leak.

I have no problem with you installing a header but I'm not sure I would do it due to exhaust leaks. I have the LC Engineering stainless, ceramic header and really like it. It's well built and I've had no issue with leaks. However, if you asked me which was less likely to leak, the factory (emphasis on factory) cast iron manifold or my fancy header, I would have to vote for the OEM manifold. My advice, therefore, would be to buy a good header if you're going to buy one (especially if you're buying it in the hopes of curing an exhaust leak issue at the block). When I did my research a couple of years ago there were only two credible choices: LC Engineering and Thorley.

One thing to keep in mind about the header. You will need to keep a wrench in the truck and check the header nuts frequently until they stay tight. If you don't I guarantee it too will leak. I've had a header on my 4Runner for probably 9-10 years with no issues.

....get back to school!!
We're getting great service life outta' the Thorley (re: '85 22R) As I remember it was cheap from Summit too, like $200... My brother recently bought another brand for his truck due to the Thorley high price, like $350 evidently they've gone way up. Or he's a tard and doesn't know how to shop
Anyway... here's my junk. Good luck with it!

Buy the 4.7s, you won't regret it... I have a header and 4.7s. There is no substitute for proper gearing and no amount of HP gains will equal the performance gains on the trail for having the super good gearing. Headers are cool, but if I could only buy one or the other I would go with the gears.

Grab one off a junkyard truck and sandblast it inside. If you want more power, increase the exhaust pipe after it to 2" to the cat. Then from the cat to the muffler, 2.25" and use the same for the tale pipe. The trick is finding the right size and length of pipe to keep the exhaust flowing swift enough to suck out the exhaust from the next engine cycle at the right time and with enough force without having to much back pressure. Apparently the stock header for the 22RE is very well tuned to do this. engnbldr talks about this in a number of threads at 4x4wire.
As for gearing, get it right before playing with the engine and exhaust.

I had one of those headers in my Celica. I think it was a Hedman? It was about $120 from Summit. It worked fine for the 10 miles I used it. It's still in the basement if you're looking for a cheap used header...

huh? Will it fit on a 22r? Will it adapt to the current exhaust flange under the truck(down pipe?).
