1985 Toyota 4x4 - Automatic Transmission Temperature Light is On. Ideas?

I searched through FAQ and also through various other parts of the forum. I cannot seem to find an answer to this problem. I have a factory service manual and it made no mention of this.
I was driving my truck today and the AT Temp Light came on. I inspected the fluid level and appeared ok (no unusual smell).
In addition, I also have a brake and battery light on and a check engine light that periodically comes on. Tranny appears to shift okay. I am thinking my alternator might be going out and one other thread had a similar result.

Just curious if others have had this problem. I started freaking out thinking my tranny was going out since I was about 40 miles from home when this happened. I checked the fluid level 3 times. My dashboard looks like a Christmas tree.

Any input would be great.

Classic signs of a dying alternator.

x2 have the alternator checked. and when the battery power is about to run out all gauges will die and not long after that the truck will start missing and then die.
