New member of the family *Turbo*

We just bought this truck from a co-worker. He was the second owner and the original owner also works with me.

1986 Hilux 4x4 Extra cab, 22R-TE, Fully loaded, PW, PDL, Air, Rear Defrost, Cruise, Tilt, Automatic, Moon Roof.

253516 miles on the truck.

Fully documented life back to the receipt of the original sale.
All valve adjustments, preventative maintenance and oil changes have been early or on time throughout. Even log books recording all fuel mileage and weekly tire pressure checks from 54 miles on.

The big pluses that I see are:

Engine rebuilt at 168920/ 4-1-98 (84596 miles/ 11 years ago)
New Turbo and exhaust manifold at 208019/9-7-01 (45497 miles/8 years ago)
New Radiator at 220620 /11-11-03 (32896 miles/5.5 years ago)

According to the logs, after the turbo replacement, it has used < 1/2 a quart of oil between changes.

It drives great and according to the reading on the Banks turbo gauge, it maxes out at 6-7 psi of boost. All services have been at Toyota dealers with only Toyota parts.

There are no leaks that I see except a little weep from the valve cover. All the fluids look as clean as the rest of the truck. (A reflection on the service history)

It also includes a camper shell that isn't in the pictures, but is color matched and is only a few years old.

This is mostly to be used as a training vehicle for our twin daughters as they approach 16. I'm also looking for an old Subaru or another Toyota or other car or truck with a standard so I can teach them how to drive a stick or, I do have a good lead on a R151 tranny to swap in to this.

Here are a few pics:

The truck has only ever lived in SoCal and Arizona, so there is ZERO rust.

Let me know what you think,
Dave

Nice. I've always wanted a turbo truck but w/ a 5 speed though.

I'd settle for a turbo with an auto. Looks sweet and I'm envious.

Wink

What a piece of junk, it's gonna fall apart at any moment. Just give it to me for $1 instead!

Nice!

I will give you my first born for that truck!

You can keep the tranny.

Is there a noticeable difference? Hell yes. There is nothing cooler than passing cars on the freeway at 90 running 8psi in an 87 4runner. Did I mention that passing is done in 5th gear?

Upgrading from the ct-20 would be a huge first step to wake that truck up. It would also get rid of the turbo lag.
