mildly interesting cargo capacity fact
Went to the rock and gravel yard yesterday in the hilux. Picked up 1 yard of 3/4 smooth rock for a french drain in a retaining wall. Thought I remembered the yard fact sheet stating it weighed ~1600 lbs. It was gutless driving it home, but that's normal.
Looked on the sheet again when I got it home, 2800 lbs!!!!! I've had it loaded this heavy or close to it with concrete, wet dirt, sod, etc several times before. This truck is indestructible. tony __________________ '73 Datsun PL510 2 Door Saloon '97 FZJ 80 Locked Mall Cruiser. |

agreed, but it felt fine. I leave plenty of room regardless of what I'm driving. I have towed heavy loads in various vehicles and know what it feels like, this wasn't bad at all.
Besides, keeps the back end from coming around if you lock them up.... t __________________ '73 Datsun PL510 2 Door Saloon '97 FZJ 80 Locked Mall Cruiser. |

Had an opposite one a little while back involving our local council.
I took a load of rubbish (trash) to the tip & on the way in, the combine weight of my cruiser, trailer & load was 3,100kg I went in & unloaded & on the way out, weighed in on a different scale at exactly 2,000kg That was where the problem lay. My cruiser, empty is 1960kg, I weigh around 85kg, the trailer is 300kg & that is not mentioning recovery gear, drawers, full tank of diesel & so on. I disputed it & asked to be weighed in on the scale I was weighed on the way in, but "that goes against our procedures" was the quote I was given. I then rang the council the next day to dispute it & they said I have to get my vehicle weighed at a public weigh bridge (at my expense) & send them the documentation before they will look at it. As the dispute is only over about $40 I couldn't be bothered fighting it (especially as it would cost about that for the weight ticket). |

I loaded my 89 pickup with sand earlier this summer, filled the whole bed up to the bedrails . I would have kept going, but I noticed the gap between the bed and cab was getting smaller at the top. I was only in my yard, so braking wasn't an issue, but it did take low range to get it to move. Tough little truck, it refuses to give up. It's my plow truck, log skidder, go to the dump rig, and it still can be used for the 45 mile commute to work if need be.

Driving from San Antonio back to Dallas a couple years ago, we saw two (count 'em, Two!) Ford pickups on the shoulder of the interstate, both broken in half just behind the cab.
One of them was still loaded, the other had been unloaded and was just waiting on the wrecker. Pretty amazing sight. You guys be careful. LT __________________ Dark Green 1999 UZJ100L with an intermittent D-rive light; White 1999 4Runner LTD. Black Mountain, NC |
