4-Runner rear axle to PU swap?
Has anyone put a rear axle from a 89-95 4-Runner (coils) under a pick up? I guess I could search it but I thought posting a new thread would be easier. If so post up some info and pics. It might be a worth while swap and the the bed bob could get even shorter.

The whole suspension? That's a lot of work to end up with s stock suspension... on a different vehicle. Anyone qualified to do that swap would also be qualified to to a 4 link conversion, with much better results. So the answer is no, I have never seen that swap. If you mean cutting off the coil stuff and putting leave spring perches on there.... I'm sure that's been done.... I don't know that I've ever seen a write up though...

you dont do this. it is not beneficial. only if you have no other axle. mainly cause its a lot more work to cut and grind down all the brackets. use a leaf axle, for either use with leafs or a 4 or 5 link.
you want a real hard time? copy your post, exactly and post it here __________________ Wristy check the FAQ! 1980 RN37 ![]() ![]() 1989 RN101 1986 RN64 Quote:

I'm also gonna say "don't do this". It's not that great of a suspension design, especially for wheeling. A lot of fancy bracetry on the frame for the 4 control arms and panhard, plus the spring buckets. Then the springs will sag.
4-link, or ellipticals are the way to go. __________________ KB1OSF '87 Toyota xcab SR5 - SAS'd, stuff '98 Lexus ES300 '04 Toyota Highlander |

For the coolness factor, if Wanted to, I'd swap frames before I'd do all that cutting and welding.
I've got a rig that's being built based on highway driving and I've thought about swapping the (SWB, leaf spring) frame from it, to a spare 90-95 4Runner frame I've got. Lotta work, but what can I say? The cush ride and being able to drift it has spoiled me. ![]() As long as the wheel bases are the same 2MK they will all bolt up. If you wanted to swap the frame... __________________ Originally Posted by Hilux I want to be the Ben Braddock of the apocalypse ![]() And Resident headache getter ridder of-er for the ladiezzz... ![]() |

Wow...did not realize that this may be a bad idea. I had owned a 93 Runner several years ago with OME springs and t bars and felt like it flexed well. Although I did not wheel it as hard as the Hilux I've got now thought it did not do to bad. The truck is set up quite well now and I'm not gonna change it.
Just thought I would ask...good feed back. Much thanks. Maybe some time in the future I'll go custom four link but for now the leaves will be just fine. Thanks again.
