88 4runner needs a starter

Hey, I need to buy a starter form my 88 4runner, 22re, I have a quote from TAPrecycling for 50$ shipped but I would like to know if anyone wants to sell me one cheaper, also I would be happy to know of more yota part recyclers in the event that my very experienced 'hell and back' 4runner should continue to part by part deteriorate.
Happy mud n flood season, pete

Prepare: this should be moved.

Any 22r and RE will work.

Where are you?

Is there ANY salvage yard near you?

The starter can probably be repaired, as the copper contacts just need to be replaced.

You can get the starter rebuild kit at the stealer (@$30), or go to a car electric shop and get a pair for @ $5. If the starter's already out, you can check the contacts by removing the trapezoidal plate (three screws). One side will be worn way down. If you choose to replace the contacts, make sure to seal the plate with RTV.

Many people prefer the fixed starter to the new after-market starter of lesser quality.

Yeah or worse scenario is to have an alternator shop rebuild it for 25-30 dollars. There is a show here that cleans and rebuilds them for that. Really a good deal.

Buy 2 sets of starter contacts. Install one set in your current starter, put the other set in your spare parts box for the next time, you'll probably need them in about 20 years.
