3vze dead after 398,000 miles

I have a 89 p/u with a 5 speed and a blown 3vze and a 94 4runner rust bucket with a good 3vze and auto trans. I intend to swap the newer engine into the p/u but have never done an engine swap before. I had a few questions that i was not able to resolve by searching. Will I have issues with the electronic connections by swapping the newer engine, will I need an adaptor to retain the preferred 5 speed. and is it easier to install the engine and trans together as a unit.

No, you swap out the connections for what you have on the truck. The biggest problem you will have, and its a small one, is the timing belt tensioner. Dont know the exact date but it was changed from a spring to a hydraulic one. Its not a big issue. Just use which ever the heads will allow.

If I could, I would try to find an older one, I'm having a hard time killing my 14mm head bolt motor.

IIRC, the 88-89's had a 14mm and the latter ones 90's and up had 13mm

A little off track but I was wondering if it was at the point where it burned or leaked oil excessively. Did it go through a couple HG sets in it's life? Awesome run on the engine, hope it's fixed soon.

It did begin to leak a little at about 200,000 but never tracked down where exactly. It was my brothers truck and his philosophy is to beat the sh*t out of the engine and never change the oil. The only time he even put oil in it was when he was taking it out of town. Oddly enough he meticulously maintain the rest of the vehicle. Just hates engines I guess.

Imagine how long it could have gone with someone who took care of it.

My 93 3.0 5 Speed is fixin to turn over 240K and i have spent some major cash on keeping it going and only 1 head gasket under recall and steering rod also on recall. Just did brakes, clutch kit, timing belt and all the garb it comes with and new Michelin LTXAT2's and it drives almost as good as my 06DC Tundra! Cruiser Dan has taken good care of me and i have taken good care of Rich and Todd they are the best at American and no comebacks on my 93. oil pressure seems a little low at idle when warm but nothing too bad?

I heart that little guy, the olny two reasons its parked is b/c of two hit and runs and 6.5 mpg

oh, and it's 4:56 shod w/ 235s. In-the-red is an understatement
