Timing chain update AND questions

Hi all.

Well, just waiting on parts now. Everything is off and ready for reassembly.

I was wrong about my guides-they were in three pieces !!!

Question- on the oil pump, there are two internal gears. I noticed they both have arrows on them. Is this to show front versus rear OR line up? If line up, then which side does the inside relate to i.e. the arrows do NOT line up. They either relative to left or right of each other.

Interesting thing - my chain is OEM from Japan and I know the chain has not been changed. The bright links that mark the timing of the cam/crank gear were NOT on the mark. They were, however, 180 degrees from one another. Strange. I was VERY careful when removing them and even looked before I took them off the cam/crank. Go figure. I know I am at TDC because Piston 1's intake is open as if I were to adjust the valves. Right??

Again, really not a bad job at all. Just time really more than anything.

I've read all sorts of urban legends about those arrows, they really mean nothing as far as putting the pump back together, I believe they are only used in manufacturing. Just put the thing back together, stuff it full of some heavy assembly lube or grease so it will prime easier, and you're good.

You'd have to spin that chain a lot of times to get the links to line up perfect, it's a bit of a random pattern once you start it after the initial lineup.

Yeah, there it is!! OK, makes sense.

In terms of the chain, never thought about that. I guess I ASSumed that it would every 180 degrees and be back at those marks. Thinking about now, that does seem a bit silly.

Always after tear down check the TC cover at the oil pump for wear. The oil pump stuff is steel that moves against aluminum, and often into it, so check it and replace it if its got a groove in it.

Do not do not machine (or tool) rub down or polish the surface, it will cause the oil to be pumped with LESS pressure.
