Buying a clutch...what should I go with?

I was thinking of getting the "Heavy Duty" ceramic clutch kit from marlin crawler for my 3.0 but this will be the first time ive ever put a clutch in myself. The heavy duty kit comes with a 1600-lb pressure plate rather than the 900-lb plate from the factory. What difference does this make? And should I get a ceramic clutch or a standard organic clutch. Im sure yall have done many clutch jobs and I wanted to see what yall thought...

Thanks

I do not have a Marlin Crawler clutch but I have heard no negative feedback on them, only praise. I have several friends that have been running them for years and they say they feel brand new even after years of driving. The only difference between the two is that the 1600 lb is for smoother shifting with larger tires and an enhanced lifespan. Marlin engineered them to be a heavy duty, longer lasting clutch for use with everything from stock to extreme. Based on everything I have read and been told by people running them, I will definitely get a Marlin clutch when my old centerforce goes out.

You do not want the ceramic clutch if this is a DD or a street driven rig. The ceramic is a lot snappier and meant for offroad rigs only. Go with the 1600 Marlin kit. you wont be disappointed. Clutch job is not that difficult. If doing it without a tranny jack or a lift the biggest pain in the ass is getting the tranny back into place.

I did a writeup of sorts, a link should be in the FAQ. Get a tranny jack, the rest is easy. I have the standard Marlin clutch, it's been great for 10K miles.....

A Button Clutch from Adelaide Clutch Services is the sole product that's made in Australia that I'm proud of.
I Telephoned 'em in Adelaide on the suitability of a Button Clutch in a Diesel Hilux, got the OK, got the Part Number, then I phoned Better Brakes in Cheltenham to order it. Better Brakes telephoned me one week later for me to come pick it up. Amazingly customer service for Australia.

Please buy this Australian made product, thanks.

X2. This is the way I'm going. Once my tranny is rebuilt I'll be getting a heavy duty organic from Marlin. I did a bunch of searching, and the quality and price are very hard to beat.

Just to throw in another suggestion, I have LC Engineering's Pro Street clutch, 2x stock holding power but the clutch pedal has little or no additional resistance. I think it's a fantastic product but a little pricey.

I would not go with a ceramic clutch but I'm sure that Marlin's normal heavy duty clutch is a good product. The issue with ceramic clutches is that they don't feather. It's like driving with a digital clutch, either completely engaged or nothing....not fun for driving on the street. Actually I'm not sure if it would be a lot of fun in the rocks either!
