All I've done to my Hilux is drive it home. - Which has been the only time I've driven it. Have had a broken right Ankle since the 8th of June, Crashed a Gokart on the Straight on the last Lap comming upto the Start/Finish line, When the Person in front of me spun. First maintenance item will be the Clutch, Then the first modification will probable be Parabolic Leaf Springs.

Best mod=Lockrite in the front. I installed it six years ago and it still amazes me off road. You must install a idler arm brace though. I finally learned my lesson after bending three.
Worst mod= 31x10.5 tires on 8 inch rims. I always get dirt in the bead after wheeling and have to bread beads and clean it out or I leak air. Only put 12.5 wide tires or wider on 8 inch rims if you wheel the truck. Next tires will be 12.5 wide. __________________ John Smith 79 FJ40 |

worst mod: skyjacker 5" softride. pain in the ass to install. infact is it not possible that they had actualy installed on of their system before they sold them . they expected the sway bar to fit with no mods? while the axle dropped 5"? Not a big deal bc my father owns a metal fab shop, also the drive angles were all messed up so there was drivablity problems. beyond that I had two sets of springs that went bad on me and were warranteed. also the skyjacker spring pack are too thick so when you put them on the arms for the emergency brake will NOT move. Pain in the ass!!!! so go with another manufacturer. I love my Old Man Emu springs on my cruiser, but I got them cheap and I'm not sure If I could cough up the dough for a new set.
Best Mods: detroit softlocker rear and detroit truetrack front and yukon 5.29 gears, 35" procomp xterrains. worked very well as a combination, my spedo was almoast accurate. Custom flatbed, take a beating better than sheet metal, and you'll notice on mountain roads your rear always slips off the side first. Warn 8274 a little heavy but I picked it up for $200 ![]() York onboard air. the compressor will fit on the lower pass side of the engine, but it's tight. I put a 12 gal air tank under the bed with a pressure switch and port out the side of my bed. I always had air ready to go and easy to get to. __________________ jetboy, 75-40 |

ALso don't buy a centerforce clutch!!!! they don't last long in high temp off road situations, TRD makes a new 10" clutch kit that is the sh** , for $500 it is the only way to go!!!

Best mod: truetrac in the front.
Worst mod: NWOR Springs. Shitty design, shitty ride, shitty quality, and damn expensive. I thought I'd get what I paid for, but I didn't. I won't call them again. __________________ A Ron Using one cruiser to go mountain biking, and the other to collect dust. 2F-E Article McNamara gear writeup |

telephone phone pole modification to the right front that includes the sheetmetal, suspenion and frame.
this would fall under the worst catagory just got word today about the frame(it was wrecked last dec). sadly i think that seals it's fate. __________________ it's only metal, we can out think it. 77-fj40 20th anniversary edition 87-fj60 216K mile DDer 93-fzj80 mall crawler toyota material distribution center. your source for Factory Service Manuals. they're alot cheaper than you think. 1-800-622-2033 |

I ran Santiago Canyon a few years ago and experienced the same with my DF2. Barely made it home. End result was the friction material went away, so I went to the TRD clutch Danny |

I'll remember the probs you guys had when i'm shopping for a clutch for my Gen III Formula project.
I've had a CF clutch in my FJ for 6yrs without a prob except learning how to use it at first. It's like an on/off switch and it sucked trying to crawl with 28:1 and no slip. No Probs now though. __________________ Any brag I make comes with 4 kids in back, and one of them likely will be sleeping ![]() '78FJ40:33s,SBC,PS,SR,Rrflip,4"lift,Warn,Lockrite, Rockbox, Topless.
