exhaust

i will have most of the cash together as of next paycheck, which is fortuitious as i seem to have developed a leak of my first 22re. the most rearward stud on the manifold has backed itself out and sacrificed itself to the gods of the trail. the rest of the system is pretty rusted and deserves a bit of tlc as well.

where should i look for headers and what should i look for? 4 to 2 to 1, 4 into 1? long, short? what size pipes(1, 1.125, 1.25 inch) and collector(2 inch, 2.25, 2.5)? the rig as a rough 1986, 4runner, 5sp. the price on the header will determine the amount i can spend on the rest of the system. this isnt a bargain basement thing but i dont have the proverbial unlimited budget.

there is not a lot of options availible for hedders out there, as far as tube size.
the collector pipe will come with a 2.25 strait pipe that you use to finish off your exahust.
I found that pace setter works good.
When buying a hedder there are three very important things you must consider.
the thickness of the flange. you want a thick flange.
will it fit between your fire wall and next to your transmission?
and the most important issue. emissions. do not think that you will gain any kind of pow increase if you eliminate your EGR system. you need to order a hedder that has the EGR tube holes on it.

i have found that the pacesetters have all these important aspects. you can pick one up for $130-160 bucks.

remember to retighten your flange with in the first 50 miles and periodically afterward.

the stock gasket listed for these engines will not work with a hedder, cause there is a heat shiled in the way. but the new hedder will come with all the nessicary gaskets
