Why:
Cause it runs at all angles and gets rid of half of the electric crap that will break on the trail.

How:
Install a carb intake and put the mixer on top.

Here is mine. Got 190,00 hard miles on it. Never modified except the asian manual hubs. Not been cared for too well eaither, but still runs great. Mostly used for harsh winter transit and pulling my trailer full of wood on logging expedition, atlest a few thousand pounds.
Motor:3VZ-E
Trans:Manual
T-Case:Stock
Gears:4.11
Nothing special, just reliable, rugged transportation.

I'm just a n00b.

Had it less than a year and still haven't driven it.

Specs:
1987 4Runner
22RE w/ mild cam and header to Borla exhaust
5 speed manual thansmission
stock case
1984 front axle SAS w/ Marlin cross over steerin arms & All Pro linkage
5.29's rear spool, front Detroit EZ Locker
35x15.50 Interco TSL SX's

In the process of rebuilding axles and doing a rear disc swap in the process. Once I get it back on it's feet and on the trail, then I'll start thinking about the next set of mods. But high on the list are Longfields, 4.7 gears in the case and 37" Iroks.

Hey guys, been browsing here for a while, finally decided to sign up. Im a proud owner of a 1992 Hilux Surf, 2lte Turbo Diesel. Me and her are going threw a rough patch at the moment, but we will get threw it. (cracked head). Love the truck, its been a great offroad, but i dont have much to compare it too, my first 4x4/ Currently have a G144 diffy, so hopefully i can upgrade to at least a locker up front. I would like to do a 2inch lift and run 32inch tires appose to my crappy 31inch firestones. 2.5 inch exhaust and pyrometer are in being take cared off during this hole head thing. Cant wait to get back on the road!

Here are a few pictures i took :

Talking

I have been driving and mud bog racing Toyota trucks for 15 years. I have an '80 Truck with a old style 22r block with double chain stock bore, crank, and rods, 20r moded head with 1mm bigger than 22r stainless steel 22r valves, double springs, titanium retainers, Shcneider cam,Weisco 10.5 pistons, Weber 38mm dges carb, 1 5/8' primary/long tube header, 3' flowmaster, factory 4.37 gears with locker in the rear/welded front, newer('88) 3" wider rear housing, 5" springs, 3" body lift, 5 speed. Truck has factory tach in dash and factory add on air conditioning. I run 36" bucksot mudders or 35/10.50 boggers or 34/9.50 super swampers depending on the track conditions(shoot me a line I'll explain why)

I also have an '84 extra cab. It has a Crane -14 Cam, Weber 38mm dges carb, 1 1/2 primary long tube header,3" springs, rear locker. I did use this truck to pull the other one to the race tracks.

bought an F-250 diesel so I can pull 2 at a time now

Don't hate. Participate.

Diesel Runner: that is a nice looking vehicle! Did you get your 2LT-E from Jarco? Any pics of the swap itself? How's the head, or have you put a 3L head on it?

Also: that is a wicked sweet Surf posted. I swear, someday I WILL find myself a fender with that mirror on it for mine (probably the same time I find a 4 door body).

Don't know how I missed these two, but those are some nice looking diesel rigs!

Dan

First poster here. Been lurking for a bit but decided to sign up and participate here and there.

Anyways its a 1987 SR5, 5spd. Purchased it in Nov of '07 off of 2nd owner with 103,000 miles on it. Ive put about another 4k since then.

No modifications. Simply riding on 31 inchers with an old Warn front as well as a rack on top from a company that no longer exists, i forget the name.

ive got plans for a lift around 3 inches, lockers and 4.88s within the next year.

heres som pictures of her in action...

Had no idea there were so many old toy lovers!

Well, I just sat and reviewed this entire posting. Some nice Toy's, some fresh beginnings, some projects well along.

My first time here. So Greetings! I owned an 87 Toy pickup while in the Air Force (Washington State). Spokane.

I am from Vermont (good 4 wheelin home of 'hellsville'=10 miles of powerline, rock, ledge, climbing, and bogging all in one).

At anyrate. Since that first truck *deep breath* I have missed her for years. About 2 years ago I found an 88 and bought her for 800.00.

The memories of my military days and the offroading etc...*ponders off*... oh, yah where was I...

I have been nursing her slowly to better than new each time I do somthing to her. Shes basically stock for with some embellishments.

My long term plans are for serious suspension, lift sufficient for good articulation, LS differentials, at least 33x12s, off roader shocks yadda.

What I have done: Replaced the front quarter panels. But first rhino lined them inside and out including new paint. Then rhino just above the infamous Toyota body seam down including the entire bed. (Stop the bleeding right).
Just prior to that I had the frame worked on ... spent allot of money to make it stronger than new.
Next new shocks and gloves. (Not the ones I want but good for now).
Ripped out the interior carpet went with one piece black vinyl/rubber with pad for noise reduction.
Had one valve which eventually went. I found a used engine and put that in. had all the seals replaced.
No better time to replace the clutch so put in a centerforce comp. unit.
She was top of the line for her day. AC, power windows, casset tape radio (I am serious!).
She's getting some minor front end work this week or next but nothing major.
If work picks up and the money tree seeds grow I just bought I hope to grow enough cash to make the bigger changes.

New Guy! My Ride!I

I have a "New" 1985 Toyota PU SB 4WD. I have completely overhauled this truck. It has a remanufactured engine(22R), Offenhauser Dual Plane Intake, Weber 32/36DGV Carb, LC Engineering Stainless Header(Jet Coated), HD 3 Core Radiator, Full Magnaflow Exhaust 2 1/2", Speced Distributor, K&N Filter. The body has been completely stripped and repainted in 1992 Toyota Supra Red, custom made shell, carpet kit, American Racing Baja Rims, 31 x 11,50 Geolanders, Gorilla Locks, Skyjacker Shocks, and all mechanicals replaced or rebuilt. Looking forward to Toyofest 2008 and just have cleaned bottom side and undercoated and painted and cleaned all suspension components. Cool site here. Lots of good info and pics.
