Hilux wont downshift at high speed

Hi guys... my '91 hilux 3L gasser wont shift down at 90 km. Its revving at over 3,000 before I can even go over 100km. Once it warms up ( for a long while ) then it will downshift and give relief in the 2000 rpm range. Any suggestions as to what the problem is?

It's not suposed to shift into overdrive untill the vehicle is at operating temp. Is that what you're talking about?

Even at speed it wont shift down. Unless maybe after about 45 minutes driving - I've checked all the fluids and stuff, just thought I'd ask before I go get it looked at

That's an odd one. Does it operate completely fine after the 45 minute warm up? Or does the problem come and go once warmed up?

It could be as simple as a solonoid, or an ATF temp sensor but I'm not an AT guy.

im not a AT guy either. this is a guess, if there is a kick down cable loose or mis adjusted, it would cause this. speaking from experince on american trannys.

peek your skull under there and make sure no vacuum hose or wire connector got ripped off.
