Rear Winch?

Anyone have rear winch on their rig?

I've got to redo the bed that's on my truck as it's currently just some metal and wood slapped together and I really don't dig the wood look. I've searched on a few forums and I'm doodling up design ideas for the new flat/tube bed. Something similar to the All-Pro kit but with some changes.

Then the idea of adding a rear winch popped into my head. I'm just trying to figure out how to mount it.
Could I just bolt it to the bed itself with some re-enforcement under the bed? Bed will be constructed of 1/4" Diamond plate and 1.75 .120 wall DOM.
Or should I do some sort of cross member of sorts that ties into the frame and mount the winch to that?

Cross-member to the frame. I would consider using a universal winch mount with the reciever adapter so you can use it front and rear. People say it isn't a good idea but I've never heard of one snaping the reciever pin. I've 'wheeled with a guy that had a single cab dodge 2500 diesel using a reciever mounted winch without issue and he would do everything in his power to get stuck just to use the winch. And you only have to buy one winch.

Buying two winches isn't a big issue. I plan to go for used stuff if I can.

I'm not a big fan of the multi mount because they will take away some approach and departure angle.

Hey Tony -

Are you still looking for info or pics on rear winches? I have an M12000 mounted under the bed of my 40 and can post pics if it helps with ideas.

Randy

x2 that, make sure you get a 10,000 lbs. + shear breaking strenght pin. (I have see construction companies use large nails to tow portable concreat pumps 10-15k lbs, bad idea )

So dont run one period, keep it in the tool box, or straped to the bed

Weight distribution, and one less winch to buy.

I like to think I would use the milti mount system and/or permanent front; (AAA basicly uses that system for is jumper leads) and carry about a 4ft. square tube extension, so in the event I could self right if I rolled .

forgot some details: weld receivers on all four points (on the sliders)

Rear winch pics - M12000

The tube frame that the winch is mounted to is bolted to the frame rails and the rear cross member. More pics later...

this set up is kinda pricey but more functional can be moved from vehicle to vehicle wich could pay for itself!!http://www.autoanything.com/winches/...0A1798917.aspx plus keeps from crawling under vehicle to mess with cable rewinding!! especially if your in da MUDD!!
