Late at night and im still at it.
ok the clock just hit 2:50 pm and im still at it.
story goes like this: my timing chain cover has been leaking coolant for a while and its getting on some pully bearings and starting to make them whine. So my friend and I atack the cover. out goes: radiator, fan, fan clutch, coolant, distributor, valve cover, crank pullys, and finally the valve cover itself. thing is the valve cover is being a b**ch to get off and when we finally do get it off it rips part of the head gasket with it. %$#$#%!!!!! ok so its not a large peice of the head gasket and might be able to be mended with some kinda rtv??? who know. a quick trip into the bacement uncovers that we have a spare head gasket layin round. so now there is no excuse for me and i hack into it. out goes: vacume lines, intake, exaust, valve lifters, timing chain, +chain sprockets, and finally the head itself. my friend has work so he went to bed sometime around 1 and I mostly have it back together just need to get the belts back on, mount and fill the radiator, reconnect the intake manifold completly, along with the exaust, throw the fan back on and call it a night... or by now morning. __________________ -Nate 88 PU long bed, pro comp 33's All Pro rear suspension Toyota factory e-locker 4/88's And a whole lot of dents contributed solely by new england's natural flora and fauna (mostly responsible is one species of flora... pine) (and the elusive new england delivery truck) |

The only thing keeping me going at this point is the snacks I looted from my friends pantry.

I hope you're sleeping now!
Did you fire it up? Just count yourself lucky that you didn't strip an exhaust stud.... or something else. I know someone that stripped a stud and ended up rebuilding the engine........ then sold it and bought a Taco!

Cool way to keep the truck out of some of the elements. Will have to keep that in mind if I ever need to work outside.

ya just went nose up to my other friends truck and threw the tarp over both. The shop lites kept me warm enough to work. she fired fine just needs some new coolant. I am soo lucky it went as smooth as it did I think if i had broken an exaust stud ide have ran out into traffic or something.

Dood! It's just practice for when something takes a crap,
in the middle of nowhere, at 10:30....PM, it's raining, and you've got a flathead screwdriver, a pipe wrench, one beer, and a bag of Doritos (the .99 cent kind) to fix it with.

Was that a black Honda Nighthawk behind your truck?
Anyways, I love the tarp idea and wish I had done that when I was swapping motors back in New Mexico during winter. No cover, just a parking lot at my apartment, me, my tools and a hoist.... and 4 inches of snow and wind. Talk about a bitch! Here's to simple and smart ideas!
