new '86 4runner

it was the find of the year for me. lucky for me i found it int he first week of the year. the old man who sold it to me had just reduced it to a rediculously low price when the stars all alligned. i arrived and it was mine. its a 1986, 22re, 5 speed with all of its original 4runner stickers in perfect alignment and no rust except the front bumper. a true west Texas cubic zirconia in the rough. i bought it for much less than my original intended budget for the purchse so im gonna have even more fun than i thought.

i love it but it is an '86 which means that the never removed fiberglass top is showing its age(a few places there are a few strands of the glass showing). i want to preserve it as best as i can. ive been thinking about using a bed liner type coating or something of the like. im also considering coating the ruber trim pieces and bumpers once cleaned of rust with the same type of coating. the engine is pretty fresh off of a rebuild.

future plans range from mild to wild. a trd cam, a one off roof rack and bumper set, receiver winch, and some dana 44's after a year or so.

any recomendations for, against, or otherwise on top preservation and what other mods i should make for a reliable grocery getter/capable trail rig will be greatly apreciated. thanks josh and micah for telling me about this site. you all have big shoes to fill because of these two.

I coated my pink top (at one time I believe it was red) with black herculiner. It didn't turn out as well as I would have liked it to but it looks a lot better then it did. I would suggest getting it done by a profesional like Line-X. The Herculiner will cost you at least $100 for the kit and it isn't fun to apply. The extra money for a profesional would be worth it and it would be functional and more attractive.
