Need some Motor Suggestions

Guys,

Picking up a 85 Mini truck (very, very well built) just want to swap out the 22r for something better.

4.3 Vortec or the 2.7 Taco Motor?

Everything is done...on this truck but it needs more angry squirrels under the hood or more Ass...

What is your suggestions for a motor swap. 5 speed G52 trans.

Given that it's currently a 22re, I'd go with a later 2.7. With the W59 bellhousing, you can bolt it up to the existing tranny (I hope it's a W56, the G52 is pretty weak). A 3.4 is a wonderful swap, but will require a different tranny as well, so the price adds up quickly. Most of the people doing the 2.7 swaps have been extremely happy with them.

The r150 I beleive that came mated to any of the 3.slows will bolt up to the 3.4 but for the amount of time and money I would rather go 3.4 than 2.7....... I am going to do a 4.3 tbi swap into my truck already have the engine and 700r4 trans... wiring harness, computer what not, but still need the adapters.....

Hmm...adding up all the parts and cost of the 3.4 I'd be in 4K probably by the time it's all done.

Have had some time to DD drive this for a couple weeks now and wheel it (drove there on the freeway) and think the you may be on to something here.

It only needs a bit more ass to get down the road better..

When I first thought..new motor..the diesals were high on the list and quickly ruled them out due to price and difficulty of install.

But now..weighing all the costs..they are right back up there with the 3.4 swap.

And I'm a super-fickle bitch when it comes to mods so this ought to really confuse me

Wow!! 1500.00 is damn cheap. I need to write down all my options and a list of Pros and Cons and make a choice.

$1,500 for what? A Diesel? If so elaborate. If Diesel nothing to think about GO DIESEL!!! So its sluggish you'll double MPG! Low end no gas can give.

We had a club member do that and ran into some cooling issues plus the turbo offers little at low end..

But gettin' down the road though..

The weight of a 4bt is not worth it in a mini truck. The long block weight is over 600lbs, not including the tranny.

You have a g52 tranny, this is worth swaping out now. A w56 is an easy swap, just get one with a t-case attached because you can't reuse the forward shift t-case with the w56. Now that you have a w56 you could do a 7mge or gte, these will bolt up to the w56 and use stock style clutch parts. Or you could try a 3rz, 150hp 4cyl, not too bad of a engine. Get a 3rz and a belhousing for the w59 and swap them in.

A swap for under 2500 is going to be hard, even using a 350 or 4.3, A 3rz would keep the weight the same and give you good power. A built 22re could almost give you the same power as a 3rz and you might be able to get out for cheaper.

Don't forget this trans fatkid.

I once had a 2x4 T100 that had a 3RZ and factory R150 trans.

Get a V6 (HD) 5sp cheap, so it's got a chain drive case it's a little bit lower in gear ratio.

Later go with Turbo 1-2-3-gears(R151) 4:89 1st?

PS There are 2, two, 3RZ's one with distributer. One with coil pacs. Hard learned the coil pac head does NOT have a distributor hole..............
PEACE OUT.

"Bell housing" IS implied

22re could be an affordable option and did not know the 4b is a long block..I can imagine drive line issues with the rear shaft and length.

The 3rz is the 2.7?

Just playing,

You get the point though.

Play with sumpn in your mind sumtimes things don't cost as much as people think, don't listen to people that don't know how to buy or even source parts.

I'm a poor boy, it's in my blood to "budget" sumpin those L.C 80 boys can't wait to put a V12 Viper motor or a $10,000 JDM Diesel in theire stuff, come on.

Break down in the middle of nowhere with a custom machined part.(?)

Youre, SOL

If diesel and gas got into a fight who would win?

Just my opinion try'n to help.

Got a rolled 91 4x4 with the 5speed stick and tcase still in it. It had the 3.0 v6 too, so I know the trans can handle that 4.3

Food for thought
