4runner/surf 3.0 Diesel info

Hello i am new to the forums and am thinking of buying a Toyota Surf (looking at 1990-1998 models). I would very much like a diesel and was wondering if the diesel engines in the Surfs are reliable.

I presume that the 3.0 liter engine i see people talking about being unreliable on these forums is a petrol as it is a 6cyl engine from what i understand.

So far i have seen 3 different diesel engines in them which are a 2.4 Turbo diesel, a 2.8 diesel, and a 3.0 turbo diesel (all of these are 4cyl). The 3.0 Turbo Diesel appeals to me the most as it is the biggest, but i was wondering how realiable it is?

I live in Australia so the models may be slightly different and i believe here is it a Hilux/Surf and NOT a 4runner/surf, although i may be mistaken and am not sure if it is just the name that is different or if they are a slightly different car.

Any information or opinions would be greatly appreciated

I'm afraid there may not be to much info on the diesels here, as we didn't get many in the states, and that's where most of the people on the board are..... If you don't get the answer you need here, try asking over at http://www.toyotadiesel.com/forums/ But stay on Mud!!!

And you are right, the 4Runner (North America) is the same as the Surf (Other places), and the Hilux (Other places) is the same as the "Mini Truck" (North America). The trucks didn't get a formal name in N.A. Untill the Tacoma in 95.

The 3.0L is 2MK a V6 N.A(no turbo) check out ebay, search for: toyota diesel, I get horny when I search for: diesel motor or: diesel engine. I'm planing an isuzu 4, 4 my soon 91 fj80. (By By 9 mpg!) Cummings has a nice big 4. No power you say, over fuel and breath on it, you can't run diesels to lean, or is it rich? Heck I can't remember. No wires, plugs, coils, ignition, longer eng. life, Torque! Range! (MPG)
