Parking brake/brakes locking in reverse

Hey everyone,
It seems that the brakes are sticking on when I try to reverse my 1979 mini 4x4 pick up. I don't know if it is the brakes themselves or the parking brake? When moving forward the truck stops fine, it is just reverse. Any tips on how to fix this problem?

Thanks,
Zack

did you just put on the new shoes?

if you installed the shoes in the wrong place this will cause this.

short shoe goes in front, long shoe goes on back.

No, nothing has been touched. As far as I know they are the orig brakes that were put on at the factory in 79. Thr truck only has 39,000 miles on it.

Thanks,
Zack

Something with your automatic adjuster, I'll wager (provided that year has them), since that's probably what's happening when you reverse. A good cleanup of the parts may take care of it.

The rear brake shoes will allow forward movement but lock in rev. My gues is that the adjustment is off or the e-brake was used for the first time in a long time and now is frozen on in the cables. Even if the pedal/lever returns they can be stuck. Lift it up in the rear and see if they can be released by grabing the e-brake cable and wiggle the hell out of em. But check the adjustment too.

My truck had an unpredictable shake/scary noise and it turned out that the arms from the e-brake cable going into the rear brakes were stuck, and ........ whenever it wanted to it would lock on the rear brakes and freak me out.
