strongest oem clutch?

hi, I'm new to these forums but not 4 wheeling or Toyota's, I have a LJ70 waiting for some serious modifications, but before that I have another question I hope someone can answer.

The rig I use for trials here in the UK has a Subaru engine, flywheel and clutch pressure plate mounted onto a Daihatsu gearbox and then to Range Rover axles.
The only friction plate I could find that mated it all up was from an old Toyota Celica ( mid 80's rear wheel drive ) but I've ripped the centre out of it.

I know that Yota made a lot of clutchs with the same dimensions -

224mm ( 9 inch ) outside dia. 21 splines. Inside dia spline 25mm ( 1 inch ) outside dia spline 28.7mm ( 1 1/8 inch )

My guess is that somewhere there's a solid centre clutch plate that is fitted to a pickup or small cruiser of the same dimensions.

The Daihatsu friction plate wont fit as it too big dia, although the splines are the same as Yota. I can't fit a bigger pressure plate because the Subaru flywheel is recessed!

The parts guys over here can't help me unless I have some idea of what model and year, and hopefully engine type etc to order a plate, nobody carries stock anymore so I can't find anywhere to go and look even.

If I can't find a stronger oem friction plate then I'll have to go for a competition plate, possibly a paddle.
Has anyone any experience of these, or even better any idea which Toyota oem plate is strongest?

I've got a nice Clutch in my Hilux.
It doesn't have a solid centre, but it's a Button type. - It's not too heavy, and it's not harsh at all.

They were very good to deal with, too. - Their Telephone Number in South Australia is 61 8 83005000

thanks, but South Australia is probably a bit far away for me.

I've posted this question on about 5 or 6 different forums so far and your response has been the only one, so consider yourself as the newly crowned worldwide Yota clutch guru.

have you looked into a shop that will reline that? a place that re lines brake shoes, should be able to reline a clutch disc.

the year generation of celica you mention uses a 22R. look one up for either a 82 celica w/22R. or try a 82 truck.
if no disc works, try looking up a 86 truck w/22R-TE

It's gone past relining! the plate's in bits......

From the research I've done I think you're right and the non turbo trucks of that era look promising.

dude, I gotta 22re clutch and flywheel that I'm pulling off a 95 22re donor engine. I'll have it off in a few days. You can have it for the price of shipping, if you want. It should be in decent shape. The flywheel is a little thin but the clutch looks ok. I'm not sure if it will fit your truck but it should fit a celica, from what I've read.

DO NOT USE the clutch parts off '95 22RE, they will be wrong. '84-88 22RE is what you are looking for Part # : 31250-26053. I sell OE parts for a living. (Used to work for Toyota in North Vancouver) Hope it helps.
