Chevy Swap

OK, I was gonna put a v8 in the 86 4Runner that I got but got to measuring and it doesn't seem like its gonna fit and not have to cut the radiator support. Can't cut it because of the A/C condensor. A/C has to stay!!!!! Is there anyone out there who has done this swap and kept the A/C? I could go V6 but I already have the v8, harness, fuel pump and computer.

Well you could cut the transmission tub on the firewall and push it back a few inches. How much space do you need?

Personally if I could ide keep it a toyota and drop a 3.4 v6 in. those things haul. and they fit nice and use toyota trannys!

I've never seen a V8 swap that's kept the A/C... As noted, there's just no room. If you must go chevy, go late model 4.3. Otherwise I echo the sentiment of a 3.4 Toy V6

I didn't run AC in my swap, but I have enough room that the rad could be moved back an inch or so. If Itrimmed the back of the grill and used some ingenuity I could then fit the AC condensor in front of the rad if I wanted. It'd be really really really close, but doable.

Years ago I helped a friend swap a 90 mustang EFI 5.0 into an 86. He actually had to get a custom radiator made that basically put the radiator into the location the stock radiator support was. The radiator support was basically gutted except the top rail of it. The radiator sat right below the support. I thought it looked terrible, and the structural integrity was certainly questionable. but it gave him lots of clearance to run the stock mustang mechanical fan and clutch with the serpentine system.

I cut the bulkhead out between the headlight assemblies. Modified an FJ40 rad bracket to fit an FJ55 radiator. Mounted this in/ahead of the bulkhead centerline.

The rig has been used hard for years now. The frame provides all the structural integrity you need.

Since the hood latch assembly has to be removed, I installed hod pins. This also serves to tie the hood into the fender/bulkhead assemblies, so you really have no concerns about removing the center of the bulkhead.

i think if you buy advanced adapters radiator you can keep the a/c without cutting the rad support not sure about a cooling fan though

I doubt it. The rad can only be so thin.
