It's because the front and rear axles follow different paths and different distances because of that. I don't think it hurts anything if you just bump it out of 4wd.

Sometimes it helps to be moving slightly when you pull it out of 4 low i.e. under 2 mph. That creates a synchro effect.

If it is still hard i.e. you should not have to hit it then there are some lubrication issues. Perhaps changing the oil and/or replacing with a better oil would help. A properly lubed transfer should really not be a problem in terms of shifting in and out of 4 wd. My 92 has 0 zero issues going in and out of 4 low.

Not sure what you just said "dun", but I think you meant there might be an issue. It could be as simple as needing to change the oil i.e. you have lost a lot of the lubrication properties in your oil.

Pretty close there.

You can't shift between 4hi and 4lo at speed because there are no synchros.

You can shift between 2hi and 4hi at any speed as long as your front hubs are locked. Not advisable on dry pavement.

It's easier to shift from 4hi to 2hi while moving, generally...

It's hard to shift from 4hi to 2hi when stopped because the gears are torqued together.
