It would not surprise me that a few early Expert models would be oddball in some way or other--like the barrel. I had one of the first USP's that made it to Houston back in 1995 (.45ACP and set up for left-handed use). The Expert was not available until several years later and I'm guessing that the serial number would tell the tale, and someone at Sterling, VA would know.
