Tow limit for Turbo'd HZJ73

Hi all,

ANybody know if a turbo'd HZJ73 can safely tow a trailer with the following weight description: 4920 lb UVW, 6300 lb GVWR? I'm looking to buy a 25ft Airstream trailer... gotta be able to pull it cross the country - mountains and all.

Thanks,

Peter

hummm, my concern would be the 4000 lbs of truck pulling 5000 lbs of trailer.
my recomendation would be less than 3500 lb max rating.

i have pulled a 4000 lb cruiser with a 800 lb tent trailer behind a HZJ75 in the past but do not recommend it. the power was barely enough with 4.11s and 35" boots...

this is just my recomendation...

1. Stock with sotck gearing .. ? I thought you need to regear.
2. Brakes .. I thought the most important point it is .. Cruiser have faily good brakes .. but for serius towing no.

IMOP my .00005 cents ..

I wouldn't recommend it. In that situation you want a truck that has lots of power to dish out and won't be working all the time. And, you will just need a bigger truck to keep the trailer in line.

Im in total agreeance with the others, Any vehicle can easily tow many times its own weight(towed a fully loaded truck with a gross weight of 9000 kgs(20000lbs) with a non turbo HZJ75.
However that was with a rope on flat ground.

Towing a trailer that is heavier than the the tow vehicle will quickly become a case of "the tail wagging the dog".

Going down hill on a bend you hit a bump,it lifts the rear wheels up and the trailer tries to overtake the truck.
A very daunting experience
