Beep, beep, beep over 105km/hr?

Anyone know how to shut off the beep, beep in a 70 series. It seems to kick in over 105km/hr. What's the big idea? Anyway, thanks in advance!

Do a search, there was an earlier thread about this. Basically, there is a speed sensor that trips a buzzer over 105 km/h. Some sort of Japanese safety thing, I guess. Look under your dash to the left side of your steering wheel. You will see a small black square box with a few slots on one end (the buzzer end) and two wires attached to a connector on the other end. It is attached to a bracket with one bolt. Unplug and remove this box and the buzzing should go away. HTH.

Holy!

Finally someody else with this. Charla's BJ73 does this intermittantly and every time I mention it to anyone I just get a blank stare. In her case the beeper is dieing so it is intermittant and varies in sound. Some days its like a cell phone, others Charla describes it "like squshing a frog under a ping pong paddle" (I didn't ask how she knows this sound) most days there is no sound at all.

As for speed, it seems to come on at 105 kph and again at 115kph.

So, the question is. Where is the sender for this thing? I didn't notice a VSS on the speedo cable but maybe there is one at the dashboard end.

I haven't explored the back of my instrument cluster, Bruce...but I'm guessing that it would be on that end. One thing I did notice, and you can ask Charla to try this, is pin the speedo on 105 km/h and watch the needle. I find mine "ticks" a little on that speed, righ where the beeper would have started its annoying sound.

Just remove the buzzer, and you won't have to worry about it. I was telling Sheldon that I should hook up a large 24v red LED scanner behind my grille and hook it up to the wires that used to power the buzzer...that way when I hit 105+ km/h (120 km/h in actual speed in my rig), the scanner comes on just like KITT in Knight Rider.

TURBO BOOST!

almost every unit i have brought in has this gizmo. to find it on ol smokey i tore the dash apart and drove down the highway with my head cocked just right and finally found it behind the hot air flow pipe under the dash. it turns out i didn't need to tear the dash apart at all, you can reach it from underneath to disconect...
it sure sounded like it was coming from around the speedo...
picture driving down the highway at 106km/hr with your head burried in the opened dash...
cheers

You might have to wait for the revolution before you can make this modification. Be proud though, diesel Land Cruisers rarely have this feature

Make sure the blue and red lights not come from a police car who was following you !! 70kph is a little bit fast in town

You're welcome. Did you use my idea for the Knight Rider look?

Hi this is my first post. I have a BJ74 and would like to know if that beeper is the lower one with the foam at the bottom, mounted to the bracket behind the air blower just above the clutch pedal. Thanks

Charla: You sound like a really interesting person from your posts...it would be neat to actually meet you on a run someday! Frog and Ping Pong paddles...who would have thought?

Is this just a speed warning buzzer because the Japs have lower/stricter limits or could it be a warning re engine RPMs etc. I gots to know.
