Any thoughts on this Cruiser?
Any advice on buying one of these?
http://carstore.autotrader.ca/used-i...b2c0f89a13.htm
I'm not too familiar with them, but the 60's getting tired.
Are these the ones with the head problems?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mat.

Matt:
Yepper, that's an LJ alright. You know the question to ask, therefore you're miles ahead of many unsuspecting buyers..
I'm sure others with first hand opinions will jump in..
If you want four doors, look for an HZJ77 (rare), or an HDJ80. If it's a two passenger vehicle you need, look for an HZJ73. But first ask yourself the question if RHD will suit your needs. IMHO, I wouldn't drive one daily in heavy traffic - and I've been inconvenienced a few times where people won't drive it when I've needed them to.

PS - Read this thread, and do a little more searching. crushers (Wayne) and Radd Cruisers (John) do this stuff full time.

Thanks! That's what I thought.
It's in my price range though. Need something with 3rd row
seats/seating for 6...
That 5spd HDJ81 in Calgary looks nice, but can I put a 3rd row in it?
Thanks for the help.
Mat.

Mat:
Read my PS above.
I have an HZJ73, and I'm looking at maybe changing - I don't know about third row seats in 'Cruisers, but I suspect if you really need that combination, a Troopy would be your best choice. Otherwise, get a Honda Odyssey or a Toyota Sienna..
Seriously!

RUN !! It's another LJ78...
DO NOT Buy an LJ78!!!
Let me repeat that...
DO NOT buy an LJ78...
These things have serious engine problems that cost lots of money... stay away.

If you are stuck on that style, this one seems to be a better choice. The price is pretty good but it has high miles. The 1KZ is much better than the 2LT.

your in Ontario, so am i and so is louis.
you need a budget that will allow you to buy what you need. buy in haste repent at leisure.
thing is, a decent 81, 77, etc costs money.
the autos are better than the 5 speeds for a DD and fuel mileage but they NEED an aux tranny cooler.
the HDT is a sweet ass engine but they NEED the BEB changed out at time of purchase.
the 77 is cooler than the 81.
you can retro fit the 3rd row seating from a 78 series into the 77 series.
you can retrofit the 3 row seating from a NA 80 into a 81.
it costs money, if you can spare the coin then you will be happy. if you are Scrooge then you will not be happy (or maybe you are just on a tight budget). spend the money upfront and enjoy the truck for years to come.
just a suggestion.

There are lots of choices for cruisers now - and cheap too, 81's, 74's, 73's, 61's, and the KZ models too - no need to buy a shitbox LJ78 now. Keep looking you'll find something. Personally I'd buy something with the 1HZ engine in it.
