Locker install tips?
So my aussi lockers should be here any day and I'm hoping to install them this weekend. I've never had the semi floater rear axle of a 70 apart before and have heard getting the cir-clips back in after can be a nightmare after the locker is installed. All my trucks have been full floaters and I'd appreciate any helpful tips on the semi floaters.

Aussie lockers are not difficult to install. I've had my semi-floater apart a few times for locker and bearings - no trouble to re-assemble. The thickness of the side thrust washers is important with the locker install - use a micrometer or vernier to check. If I recall, the critical max is 3.82mm?

Hi All:
Yep, follow the included instructions and/or look up instructions here on MUD (search for "aussie locker" and "lockrite") these units are not difficult to install at all.
Like "Rat mentioned the side washers are very crucial to getting the tolerances set-up correctly.

This may not seem very helpful, but my best locker install tip is to save up and get an ARB and don't bother with the "lunch box" locker...

I agree, if it was my daily driver I would go that way for sure. I've had E lockers in both my 80's and they are awesome. For a bush truck that I use for fishing, wheeling and camping I can't justify the huge extra expense. Front and rear Aussie lockers are $500 and change compared to at least three times that much for ARB's.

Good luck with the Aussie lockers . A few good shock loads and then you have open diffs once again.Be nice to them.

Just finished up with installation of the rear locker and the most difficult part was getting the brake drum over the shoes again. These are a piece of cake to drop in. Moving on to the front now. .... OK, the front is more involved as the whole third member has to come out but the locker itself is way easier as you can install it on the bench and don't have to finesse the right hand C-clip in. May as well service the birfs while I have it all apart and I'm grease up to my elbows! What ever gasket is on the third member is made of is a bugger to get off as well! I can't wait to trail test the lockers next weekend!
