LJ78 Class III hitch

I have been looking for a Class III hitch for my LJ78. As you can imagine, most of the commercial hitch places look through their vehicle model catalogues and quickly say they can't do it.

They just don't want to take the risk of brining in the wrong hitch time and time again.

Is there a comparable North America chassis model that will work?

Also, there is a harness just behind the rear bumper, any idea whether this is for a trailer lights?

Thanks for the help!

I did the same research for 1991 Prado LJ78.
If you have a friend with a 60 series that did come to NA I think you could measure them and the frame at the rear is very simular. If I remember it was a 197* year. The frame is square on the back and the nuts have to be put up inside so it would be a challenge at home. The universal hitches from Walmart don't work and the 4 runner is very different. I found you can look on some web sites and get the measurements of the width and drop. You need something like a 42" wide with 3" drop.

I ended up getting Drago in Kamloops to make one in a couple hours for $280 total so the premade hitches were more money and then you had to install them.

The hitch was well made and strong but may not look as good in the future as they just painted it with black paint that will not last. You could redue this yourself.

PS the lights are in the side the vehicle on behind the panels athe rear and no premade plugs work. Just test the wires to find what you need and wire them yourself inside. you need a controler (for separtate signals and brakes) and leave it inside the vehicle. I then ran the wires out the tool box with gromit and silicone to plug the hole.

I had Drago make my hitch as well. They did a good job, but same crappy black paint. Should have had it powder coated first, but it is just a hitch. My harness is 24volt, so getting bulbs for the trailer are expensive (9 bucks each) and I end up blowing them on most trips. Oh well, still cheaper than the roof rack option, so far.

I don't run with my roof racks all the time so if you ever need to borrow them for a big trip let me know. I also got a 4 bike rack for the reciever that will not get overused.

I have a picture on my web site right now
