www.gscruiserparts.com They have full floater axles front and rear with cable lockers and other stuff. Then add purchase price and import costs, get a idea of what will cost I would guess a nice 70 would probably run you around $10,000us??? Or less??? Mine was not stock and I added some other stuff.
Mostly because I don't want to see this thread die and partly because somebody asked about my rear bumper. Heres another shot of my '86BJ70 as well as one of Charla's '85BJ73
[Lundbergvoice] "Yeah, Bruce, if you get a moment would you mind getting Dent back on the trail that'd be great, thanks." [/Lundbergvoice]
i see your point
i had a hill named after me on one of the off road courses here in Alberta. i drove ol smokey up and over the second try. the same day a BJ70 tried it and could not make it. i got behind the wheel and i could not make the 70 climb over the top.
this year i am going to try it with the Mits which is 10 " shorter than even the 70 and this will tell me if i want another 74 or 77 as my wheeling rig...
get a canadian spec 70 registered in the states, once registered stretch the frame and mount a 73 or 74 body on it, there you go a legal 74 in the states...
cheers

TB did you actually hijack the sweetest thread ever and befoul it with Zukers?
The mind boggles.
While we are on the topic of wheelbase though I have to comment. If everything else was equal you'd be right but they are not and neither are you. The mid wheelbase rigs suffer, like 60s, from too much over hang. For an additional 130mm of wheelbase the 73 is 940mm longer than the 70. (these figures from the FAQ, are they correct? Must include the porch) The simple answer is to stretch the WB of your BJ70. My latest plan is for FJ45 leafs in the rear and redrilled BJ60 rears on the front which should give me about 7 inches alone but if I french the mounts I can get 2 or three more. That should get me in the 100 inch range which is close.
Here is a horrible paint concept drawing. Gotta get photoshop.

Thanks for the gentle nagging, Brian. I'm on the track now. Wayne was kind enough to help me make another project disappear and that gave me the 3B, H55f and case I needed to resurrect Dent. I was waiting for Marlin to get a Toybox for the five speed and that seems to be happening too. If I could sell the HJ, I'd be able to afford one. I have a 60 series FF c/w cable locker and a line on a front to match. I figure I'm about $5400 and 126.5 hours away from running in the Dent I always wanted. Then its on the 45 again. (jeez this is like deja vue, I said something similar in '97)

You just said that i was wrong, and then said that youre getting to the 100" mark which is close?
Ok, so what was I wrong about? I said that 100 to 105 is perfect. I never mentioned approach or departure angles. We all know numbers as close to 90 degrees is desireable. Sorry for FOULING your thread with samurais.

I accept your apology and retract my comment about you being unright. I actually totally agree about the WB but just wanted to point out that Toyota would have really had something if they'd lengthened the WB without adding overhang. It was true with the 40 series too.
My first car was an sj410 but I won't post its picture here

have a closer look at the pics... yes 70 and 73 series have the same amount of rear overhang

I think our rear overhangs are about the same from the factory, Bruce...between your BJ70 and my BJ74. Biggest differences are the huge porch I have on my front end to house the PTO winch, and the gap from axle to axle, yours being shorter and would have slightly better breakover angle.
after seeing what happens inside an elec locker motor i would say the cable but the elec is a sweet setup in the 75...
cheers

Tom, are you trying to start another 70 vs 80 arguement here? Hmmm?
If anything, cruiserheads will argue until their face is blue what they have in the garage or under their favorite cruiser or what he is selling at the moment is the best. Such is the loyalty we have to our rigs . . .
