5 Lug Full Floating axles: Differences?

Recently noticed my buddy's 78 series truck is missing a few nuts....
He has owned it for 2 years, to illustrate my attention to details.

Are those axles the same as 6 lug axles with different hubs or are they a different animal?

Rick

78 rear axels.

Yes they are different animals. The axel studs cone washers hubs & wheele studs are bigger. The diff center is different. disc roters and backing plates also. The onley things the same are the callipers and the h,brake shoes. Probley what you didn,t want to here. Cheers.

The wheels that bolt onto the 5 stud hubs are also a different offset to the 6 lug wheels so they dont hit the suspension when turning.

I dont know if its true, but someone from Toyota said they adopted the 5 stud to stop people using the 6 stud rims on the coil fronts as it would foul the supension.
So I imagine the 5 studs would stick out further than the 6 stud but Ive never really noticed any difference to how they look

i think it was more to do with when thr coils were put under the front ,the coil front diff is wider so the normal sunrasias 15x8 inch rim offset would stick out to much, so with the 5 stud rims they bought the rim in closer of offset in im not sure which way is posative and neg offset, all 79s and 78's 8" rims dont have as much "dish" as the 6 studs rims

All 6 lug Cruisers were 0mm offset IIRC, keeping it simple but aging the looks.

I believe the 5on150s are 60mm offset.
