Weird Glovebox Sounds???
Hi All,
I have a question about a noise coming from behind the glovebox on my RHD BJ74. When I'm traveling at @ 60k's and usually accelerating I hear a sound like a relay buzzing. I'm not sure what is causing it. Has anyone else experienced this? Apart from being annoying if an electrical component is on the way out I'd like to replace it before it leaves me stranded on the side of the road.
Cheers and hope someone can help,
Gav.

there is a black box about the size of a cigarette packet up there and depending on what model maybe two little relays
when i put aircon in my 75 i had to put this box in, in my hunting i found the plugs were 85-88 then the 89 box had different wire to different pins same plug and tryed a 92 one which had a different plug all together .. if your noise is it stuffing up and you have to replace this might help

Thanks,
I'll pull out the glovebox and have a look at whats behind there. Its gotta be a relay or a circuit board.
Something like that. I need to spend some quality time with the cruiser. The TLC needs some TLC

Hey Clint,
My Aircon isn't actually working at the moment. Hasn't for about 12 months. This might have something to do with but I'm not sure if it is related. I have pulled the box out to check the connections before. I thought my aircon might need a re-gas cause I've heard if the gas is to low the compressor wont turn on. Not sure if thats right or not.

ahh kay if the gas is low the comp wont work maybe thats why i couldnt get my pump to turn on cos i never got around to gassing it
Maybe the gas is nearly half out or something and its making your relay box thing buzz in and out but it should only make a noise when you aircon switch is on aka the red line

Cool, cheers clint.
The aircon switch sometimes gets left on I think. I dont really like the way the switch is designed cause its
easy to turn both on at once, fan and aircon. The noise has stopped now to. Go figure!!!!

Could be aftermarket. What you describe is how the 60 series had their aircon set up. Ive always wondered why the the 60 and 70 had different AC controls.
I assumed the 70 series style was a space saving idea for its narrower dash, but you have seen one that fits.
Aircon is an expensive option and maybe the dealers found a way to undercut Toyota.
Ive also heard a lot of the 80 series had their aircon fitted in australia because the OEM unit didnt cool too well in the tropics

Yep, the sound came back again this morning. I played with the aircon switch and it went away.
Cheers.
