285 on a 6.5 Rim?

Guys, I know that this is not exactly recommended, but there are serious issues getting tyres here in Namibia at the moment - I specifically want 265 MTs but they are like hen's teeth rare! So other sizes are being looked at. So why would 285 on 6.5 be a bad idea exactly?

The rim spec for a 285 is somewhere from a 7.5 to 9" .
You can stuff them on the rim but you may have some more tread wear in the middle and poss a little more sidewall flex while cornering .

HTH some

the width is 285. the 75, 85 is a percentage of the width for the tyre hieght. So a 285 will all be same width but the ratio will change depending on rim size for the tyre hieght if you get what i mean?

I have a set of 12.5 inch wide super swampers on a 6.5 inch rim - so yes they will fit, but not ideal.
