I have a 1973 manual fj40 and want to put in the tuffy center console with the stereo holder. It says it is 6" wide between seats then flares out to 8" for the stereo. Has anyone tried this? Does it fit without getting in the way of shifting?

I had this same set-up on my '77 before I sold it. LOVED having it, made driving it much more comfortable with the arm rest. The way I installed it, the shifter was maybe 3-4" from the console when you shifted into 2nd or 4th. The only time it was a problem was when I had a drink in the cup holder. Definately would recommend getting one
