Project .79 Rear Coil Conversion

Okay here go's my new 79 mission i have lots of Q's and will be needing some info and help along the way. ive picked up my new donar 80's chassis for all the coil hats, bars etc will start cuting of the bits ill be needing tommorw i dont plan to have this job done asap ill be doing bits and peces when i get time as its my daily
First ? about a diff i have read befor that the hubs are interchangeable between the 80 series ff diff and the 105 ff diffs if this is so can i put my 79 hubs on a 80series ff diff which would be better as the 80 diff is not as wide as the 105 if not ill hunt for a 105 diff as i have seen a few 79's with 105 diffs and the tyres dont stick out because the trays are wider than the cab, but it kinna looks like the reversed track of the new 79s

i seen another guy on 4wdaction put 80's hubs on 79 diffs to get the 6 stud wheel pattern so im presumming you can also reverse it to get the 5 stud wheel pattern on the rear (79 hubs on 80's diff),so its same as the front, or you could just buy two new 6 stud pattern rims for the rear. dont worry about different diff widths n sh-it, as nike says, JUST DO IT. lol
good luck.

haha just do it ,nice man
i want to keep the 5 stud just need to keep diff hunting
i did all my measurements today and if i get time tom start to cut the bits of the chassis i can look at my dads uzj100 and bros fzj80 if i get stuck on measurement to which is a bonus if i get a 80 diff ill jut have to drill out the axel holes to suit larger bolts which is cake

okay today after work spent about 3hours removing the chassis from the coilhats and front and back bars that hold the coilhats im going to go with a factory like set up will just have to shorten the front and back cross bars to fit inside my chassis
Now just really need to find a 105 series diff in anyone nos of one for sale in Perth and need to get camera of my gf so i can start snaping some shot of the progress cos we all like pics

Question if i find someone selling a 105 diff with out center/nugget my 79 series center/nugget should fit?

the start

On the middle pic you can se the inner side of the chassis is left on the with a lip at the top if it will fit ill leave that on and weld chassis to chassis and have to take a bit of the center out of both cross bars to fit in side the narrower 79 chassis

good stuff man, i tried to use those lips that are folded back on the crossmember to weld to but ended up making a new one, was easier for me.. and yer just measure the inside chassis widths and cut out a section in the flat part of the crossmember near passenger coil hat. good luck ,and yes wreckers are ripoff cu-nts.
