You haven't replied to my pm's and email??
I'm off at home from July 18-26. If you guys need a place to rest/restock/fix you guys are welcome. I would love to see your 77 since I am in the process of making up something similar. Please pm me as I got a request. Also, another road trip to do would be Fairbanks to Deadhorse. Then you would have covered all the northern most roads, if you are also planning on the Dempster, the one that parallels the Alaska border north.

Hey Simon,

I'm in Fort St. John (mile 50 of Alaska Highway) you can stop by if you'd like, Home and shop (although shop is full at the moment but tools available) are always open to fellow Cruiser heads. I won't be around from the 11 to 14th of July though. Post up in the Swamp Donkey Forum when you are going to be heading through.
Cheers,
Deny

The radiator stop leaks works sometimes depending on how bad it is,but I wouldnt rely on it.
It tends to clog up the cores also
Better to stop and have it fixed at a radiator shop if possible.
Is that the 77 that was for sale on MUD about 1-2 years ago, charcoal I think?

You can change gears without a clutch if you get the revs right(in case it ceases to workc ompletely)

Sounds like a great trip

Stop leak does not work very well on a split. Get a new rad from ens - they will ship the same day. You want your cooling system working well for this trip especially with a big load and a turbo.

I got some pictures to upload to show you guys.
Got the top of the core redone, but the rad shop says it will only work as a temporary fix.

day1 of repairs

Here are some of the pics from the first day at 4 wheel.
Working on the rear springs, to accommodate the heavy loads that the truck has to carry.

We found some old CS006R OME, cut the ends off of the main leaf and second leaf, and them added them to the stack of Zeal springs on the truck.

day 1 of repairs cont'd

Here is a shot of the before and after stance of the rig.
Wish we measured the gained height...
Turns out the rear is half an inch higher than the front now.

Here are pictures of the larger leaf stack after the addition of the OME.
11 leafs strong now! Looks pretty damm close to a HJ75 rear leaf.

A picture of the turbo as seen from underneath on the 1HZ.

Here's a shot with myself, Simon, and Dan of 4 wheel.

Before:

After:

As far as I know, Simon should be back on his way out of town, heading towards or past Dawson Creek today.
I'll get pics of the rad job tomorrow...I left the camera at the shop .

Cheers.

Hi All:

Yo Simon! Hope you & Clarissa & the kids are having a great time on this trip!

Alaska is a little bit cooler than S'pore, no?

Regards,

Alan

Hey Simon, how do you like the tires you put on the truck? Do they make much noise on the road?

It looks like I will be picking that 61 up from your yard. We made the deal. I will trailer it home, don't want to take a chance with the charging system.

Best of luck on your trip, It is great to see how everyone is willing to help out.

Hi all,
l am save and sound in Dawson city tonite, drove 100 km of the Hemster highway today,it was raining on and off and have to wash the truck and trailer after the drive, the Rooftop tent was full of dirt on the outside.
Hey Karl,do you have any pics of my trailer to post?
Hi Gord,l will have to post some pics later.
Hi Alan,it is cooler here in Alaska, the temp dipped down to 6 Celcius couple nite ago,and it was rainy in the last couple of days, and lots of mosquitoes here.
Hi Clint,l am running a homebrew 280ZX turbo with only 6 pounds of boost, right now,and an intercooler from CXracing on the net, also home brew.l finished the turbo and intercooler install only two days before my trip, with only few hours of testdrive, not a good thing to do before a long trip.l would try 8 or 10 pounds of boost when l get home.
so far,l am doing about 12 to 13 liters per 100 km,doing 100 to 110km/h,3 kids,2 adults,ARB fridge in the truck, roofcarrier loaded with camping gear and towing a M101 trailer full of gear, still lots of power going up hill,l can catch up the the other truck which is a HDJ81 with auto tranny,if l an behind,l pull away from him if l am in front,he only has 3 person in the truck and not towing.l will be driving the Top of the world highway tomorrow.
cheers

I will try for the middle to end of the week. I have my discovery hooked up to my car hauler already. Should I bring a battery charger and extension cord? Just in case?
I am thinking of maybe putting a set of 275/65x18 tsr's on the 61... I could put ome heavy springs on, and use the old ones for my bj60.. found a deal on 18" rims for 70 bucks through the same tire place.

Simon,
I still need to grab the pictures from the camera at work. I'm in the middle of getting packed for Europe, so my attention has been scattered. I will post them up tomorrow.
I hope your clutch is holding on!
Enjoy Dawson! I regret not being able to spend enough time in that lovely town, oh and don't forget to try the Sour Toe Cocktail!]
Cheers,
Karl

Got the truck home.. You definately have some good friends who look after your place. the guy in the silver dodge truck sure gave me the fifth degree as to why I was in your yard. then two more people dropped by to see what the H#ll was going on. one in a 80 series and one in a suzuki kei.
Had a terrible time starting it as the batteries were dead again and my battery charger burnt up. Your neighbor lent me one.. and doug went home to get his.
Anyways it is home and all the bugs are worked out of it. the battery was draining because of the stereo system. Unhooked that wire and everything is holding, the brushes were good so took the voltage regualtor apart and it was all corroded. emoried everything down and now i have about 27.2 volts on the multimeter.

enjoy your trip, knowing you have a little more room in your yard
