Hi all,
made it from Quesnel to Olivear yerterday to meet some friends.
we were on hwy 97,l saw two BJ74 just 15 minutes south of Clinton, and then two more HJ61 twenty minites later
and 10 minutes later,l saw what looks like a 40 series on the side of the road while coming downhill,l stopped on the side of the hwyway between the ditch and hwy,we were botgh and smoking,h in a very daangerous spot,he run over and said he had blew the engine going uphill,l asked is it a 2F or 3B,he said 3B,and is reving very high,l though to myself,a high reving 3B,l have seen that before,so l went to take a look, started up,rev hi,then l l saw a hose from the inj pump to the throttle body had come off,now l remembered this had happened to me before on my BJ60 with turbo, pushedthe hose back and started and runs good,we were both parked on the side of the hwy lots of traffic passing by,we drove south about halfmile to a roadside turnoff,l put 4 hoseclamps on the two hoses from the inj pump to the intake, says hello and goodbye and we were on our way,his name is Darnell Getz,he has a very nice BJ42 restored by Radd cruiser, turns out he was going to williams lake and those BJ74s and HJ61s were from coastal cruisers and they were going to a meet.
l will stay in the penticton area today, anybody in the area who wants to meet can call or post here post,l may pass thru salmon arm to visit Ed from plantdrive next two days, because l am a plantdriven dealer and installerphone number 204-290 8728.
l don't have my glasses on so pardon my engish,l am in a hurry and l am typing blind.
Cheers
Simon

"That's some sweet 'chit there Maynard"!
Quite fine set up. I love that body style. Don't know 70's much as they were not imported into the states.
Onward...

Hi All:

Simon, glad to hear that you & the family got home safely!

So, any idea what sort of mileage your rig provided on this trip?

After driving it over 10Ks in less than three weeks is there anything you plan on changing on the truck?

If you had called me from Vancouver I would have driven-up to see you!

Regards,

Alan

Hi Alan,
l was getting from 12 to 12.8 liters/100km driving at 90 to 110km/h,90 when the road is windy and 100 t 110 on nicer roadoccatonal 120 downhills.

but l am also loaded to the roof with 5 people and towing the M101 with a RTT,the turbo with intercooler running 6PSI boost really helps,l guess if l am lighter with no trailer behing,l prob do 10 to 11 L/100km.
l was driving with the a/c on most of the time too.
l can only think of one thing l like to change about the truck, that is to make it a foot wider and longer, there is jst not enoght room inside.
l was running on vegie oil from winnipeg almost to calgary.
cheers
simon

A huge THANK YOU to Simon!

I crossed paths with Simon while he was on his way down from the Yukon. I was just coming out of the Fraser canyon, just shy of Cache Creek, BC.

I was in a bad way.

It was an extremely hot summer day around three in the afternoon. The temperature had to be 40 degrees celcious. I was heading north in my BJ42 and was really happy with myself as I had my trailer loaded up with dirt bikes and fishing/camping gear, traveling with my big, old dog and putting on some miles from the city when suddenly my engine starting revving wildly in an awful choking manner. It lost all power and I immediately pulled to the side as best I could just shy of a passing lane and the beginning of a long climb. With cliffs on both sides, there was no room to get completely off the road. Adding to this situation were the highway trucks making time coming down the hill as well as trucks gathering speed to make the hill. I was clearly a hazard and my hazard lights did little to slow traffic.

After lifting the hood, I could not see any problems. I thought the engine flew apart. The stress was incredible. I worried about the big trucks crashing beside us. I thought my dog was going to die from the heat. I felt hopeless and began to panic.

Soon, a gentleman stopped and made a waypoint in his GPS of my location. He said he would call for a tow truck once he hit Cache Creek, some half hour away.

During this time, I looked at the engine but I could not see a problem.

About forty minutes later, two landcruisers came down the hill, a 70 & 80 series - both very nice (especially Simon's which was really decked out (intercooled etc.) and was pulling a really cool military trailer). They slowed and pulled over about 100 metres down the road in a little pull out (not really even that). I ran down and explained what happen. Simon made a face, got out and got me to start it up a couple of times, each time while he looked at each side of the engine. AHA! He saw the boost line had came off the turbo! He plugged it back on and the 3b was back to normal. I was amazed!

He thought all the hills and the heat caused it to pop off. He grabbed some clamps out of his trailer and secured the lines. When we were saying our goodbyes, two tow trucks came. As Simon had already saved the day, the trucks headed back while not accepting any payment. I went to drop them off beer on my way back down from holidays but they were not in. I will try to do so next month when I head up north again.

Cheers to Simon It`s guys like him that are a real credit to the Land Cruiser community.

To bad I did not know you were coming by Cache Creek as I could have shown you around.

Look at the site in my signature as it has a few pictures still.
