LJ/KZJ78 body
HD series front clip
engine from a 80 series
custom rear doors and rear body
75 series box

i would have to guess it cost in the high $60K to build... now if he could swap a 94 or older vin onto it...

didnt the LJ/KZJ78 body finish around 95?
so if its a 99 post 78 series it should be the 5 stud troopy? as for saying its a /79 series i just cant see any 79 series bits on it ? can someone show me the light

If you look at Crushers link to the old thread you can see it has 6 studs with coil springs. It mush be a mish mash of all sorts.(assuming it is the same vehicle.
It does look good though. I can imagine the Toyota execs in Japan secretly admiring this and wanting to build one

I was looking at some TL Engineering dual cabs pics and they seem to like a wider centre pillar and a lower floor for the rear passengers.

These definately have more legroom in the rear.
The low roof looks nicer but up north in 45c ,I think the high roof would be cooler

I was thinking if they used 6 stud 80 series diffs they would stick out the side alot more so i presumed they used 6 stud bundera diffs being more norrow not the lj because they have shockie inside the spring ay? which dosent give me a 79 series part yet as they say

when i used to work underground there were a few dual cab 78 troopys i think the duel cab troopy dosnt look as good as a flat top duel but defently when jumping in and out of the back seat with you minners cap and headlamp on having the higher roof was very appreciated and yea mate they did have heaps of room, i never got photos of the duel's but just full 78 and 79's

The ones I really like are the troopys with the 3rd door and rear forward facing seat

Thats proberly because we used them till death only took about 3 years till they were just that rusty and banged up every nut and bolt from leaf springs to tailshaft bolt to seat bolts were to corroded the permanent u/g ones all get washed every day in the salty u/g water once decommissioned its to the surface for mines rescue fire traing to be cooked.
Im a huge fan of the 8 rear seats in the troopys ,The troopys with the 3rd door and forward facing seat are very practical for some but defeats the point of having a troopy i think you might as well have a 80 series or so with coil comfort

It is the same truck but he's swapped to a shortened factory tray. I don't know why except that it is more 'correct' even if less functional. I loved that rig the first time I saw it and you'd need at least three donors to make one. Even if your labour was free you couldn't build one for the money he's asking. I was half way tempted last time to buy it and let my Kiwi buddy drive it around for 7 years and then load it and something else into a container and hope the profit on the second one would at least offset the shipping. I have a few too many bills to pay to try that scheme this time.

As far as the year goes, that's a puzzle. The back of the cab is definitely 75 series and not 79. That makes it pre 1998. The six lug wheels tell the same story. Someone should see if they can get the frame VIN and figure out how old it really is.

I've been collecting some parts to make such a Frankenstein but am out of shop space, time, money and inclination. If anyone wants an engineless HZJ79, and/or a rusty BJ70 and/or a good HDJ81 PM me. You could have the whole bunch for a little over $10K US. I *think* the next project is going to be my last Land Cruiser. A LHD Troopie 6x6 with the V8 diesel and Aisan six speed.

I believe they actually made an HDJ79 for some part of the world, no idea what part of it is a 79 though - the gearing is right for the 79 with 4.30 diff's though. You can swap the front hub assemblies out from the 5 to 6 lug pattern if you wanted to but then you;d lose the nice big brakes on it.

A bit of a dogs breakfast though. For something like that I'd rather build my own rather than end up with someone elses "learn as we go" type of project. It could be good - or it could be a pain in the ass.

And - why do all that work and end up with a brown landcruiser???? LOL, barf!

HDJ78/79 are pretty common here.

This is a 80 series front diff under a 75 i think even with the oem flare the tyre width sticking out would be more than the duel cab unless of course the rims have diff offset

the 80 series frame and axles would be too wide for the 7* series body.

it is a mess of different vehicles combined into one nice package. i even like the colors. it is a clean looking build.

i tried to find the company that built it but nothing on the web or the car dealer stuck up a ficticious name...

anyone want to contact him and get him to read off the vin from the frame horn?
